Deacs Fall to NC State 70-57
The Deacs fell on the road in Raleigh to the NC State Wolfpack 70-57 on Wednesday afternoon in their final game of 2025. The Wolfpack would not hold a lead until the 10:24 mark of the first half, which finished at 36-32 in favor of the Pack. But it was a tale of two halves. The Wolfpack came out hot in the 2nd half and the Deacs went cold. NC State would lead by as much as 19 on their way to the win.
As this is the first Tobacco Road contest of the season, Wake Forest unfortunately falls to the bottom of my Tobacco Road Cup standings. This is how I will track the games between the 4 Tobacco Road schools this season. The next Tobacco Road Cup game will be when the Deacs go on the road to Chapel Hill to face the Tar Heels and freshman phenom Caleb Wilson.
Team Effort
Despite Biliew, Colvin, and Harris all scoring in double figures, it was not enough to overcome a dismal shooting performance. As a team, Wake Forest shot 34% percent from the field, only 26% from three, and only 69% from the line. The bench provided only 5 points combined. This was across a combined 73 minutes of game time, 2-9 shooting, 6 rebounds, and 1-5 from three point range.
The Iron Five
The starting five continues to lead the way for the Demon Deacons. Omaha Biliew had 18, Juke Harris had 17, and Myles Colvin had 13, and each player hit at least 2 threes. Biliew had 10 rebounds, giving him a double-double. Harris had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Myles Colvin had 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. Tre’Von Spillers had 4 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and a block. Nate Calmese made up for a scoreless night elsewhere in the box score. Calmese had 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal.
Consistency
The Demon Deacons continue to struggle to find consistency in their play. Right now, you don’t really know which team you are seeing that night until tip-off. Some nights, you’ll get the team that took Michigan down to the wire in a 1 point OT loss. Others, you might get the team that got blown out at home by Vanderbilt. This team has lots of potential to be incredibly special for the folks in Winston, they just need to find some consistency.
