AEW Dynamite results including the return of MJF
These AEW Dynamite results are from a special three-hour Holiday Bash edition from Manchester, England. The Continental Classic is well underway, the AEW World Heavyweight Championship match is signed with a huge surprise, and much more in this week’s recap.
Dynamite Results – Opening Segment
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite opened straight into a match. It was Jon Moxley versus Roderick Strong in Blue League action of the Continental Cup. Both men brought the physicality in this one, while also incorporating technical skill and smooth reversals. These things led to numerous believable false finishes. Both wrestlers needed a point to stay alive in the tournament, but it was ultimately Moxley getting the pinfall and the three points.
Eddie Kingston cut a backstage promo after the match. After losing his title match to Samoa Joe last week, it was a relatively generic cut, stating he never quits and that wrestling is his life. There wasn’t much of a message other than that he will be at Collision.
Dynamite Results – The Elite Vs. The Don Callis Family
Don Callis came to the top of the entrance ramp to introduce Don Callis Family members Konosuke Takeshita, Kazuchika Okada, and Hechicero, for their tag match against the newly reunited faction, “The Elite.” This is another match where AEW continues to disrespect the fans’ intelligence by slapping a cash prize on it.
High-paced match, but it was more about the spots than the wrestling. That could be expected in six-man action. The newly reunited babyface faction always felt like the inevitable winners.
Surprise Addition To World Title Match
Tony Schvione introduced “Hangman” Adam Page, Swerve Strickland, and Samoa Joe to the ring for the contract signing of their upcoming title match. Joe was scheduled defend the strap in a triple-threat match at World’s End. The three basically reminisced on how they got to this position in angry tones.
This segment was interrupted by a returning MJF. He cashed in his title shot, which he won at All In, making this a four-way match for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship. It was cringeworthy to see him take a stab at Joe’s hairline, considering he clearly just got plugs. His digs at Strickland were considerably better.
Women’s Tag Picture
The next match was an eight-woman tag match featuring Megan Bayne, Marina Shafir, Athena, and Mercedes Mone versus Timeless Love Bombs and The Babes of Wrath. This multi-person tag match fell into the same trap as the one previous. This had athletic and entertaining spots, but not much wrestling to speak of. Mone pinned Willow Knightgale for the finish.
AEW Dynamite Results – Kyle Fletcher Vs. Pac
Gold League action in the continental cup was up next. “The Prostar” Kyle Fletcher, took on Pac in a meeting between two of the best on the roster. Both men lacked no pace, strength, or high spots. They also showed off their technical abilities and movesets. The false finishes in this match were incredible. The hometown favorite pulled out the win and three points, making it a very congested match in the Gold League standings.
AEW Dynamite Results – Battle Royal
There was a battle royal to determine two participants for a match next week. The winner of that match gets the Dynamite Diamond Ring and becomes the number one contender for the world title. Ricochet and Bandido won the right to faceoff next win.
Continental Classic Action
Moxley cut a backstage promo about how much he loves the Continental Classic, and win or lose, he always leaves it all in the ring. There was nobody called out, and no plans mentioned. It felt like a very random promo.
Mascara Dorada versus Orange Cassidy was next, and another in the Continental Classic. It had a couple of entertaining spots, but it felt just shy of a squash match. Cassidy got what felt like the inevitable pin.
AEW Women’s Division
Athena and Mone, a newly formed tag team, had a backstage promo where Mone issued an open challenge for her British titles while in the UK.
Isla Dawn and Jamie Hayter had a battle of the gingers in this filler match. It was strange to see AEW bring in Dawn and have her jobbing already, especially to someone who has had plenty of time to get over already. The Triangle of Madness attacked the combatants after the match, but powdered at the sight of AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander.
Main Event
The Bang Bang Gang took on FTR with a chance to take their AEW World Tag Team Championship. FTR pulled off some slick heel tactics, including multiple incidents of a distracted referee. Juice Robinson actually had a believable false-finish before, before leading to a spot where they thought they won, but didn’t notice their opponent’s toes on the rope. They were celebrating with the titles, even without a bell being rung. Robinson ultimately tapped out.
