Catamounts Look to End Season With Win
The WCU Catamount football team suits up for what is likely the final game of the 2025 season. Despite boasting arguably the best offense in the entire FCS, the Catamounts will once again miss the playoffs. As much as it pains me to say it, even I have to admit that this team has not earned a playoff spot. The opportunity to do so was lost after the upset loss to ETSU last week by a score of 52-35. When a defense that lives and dies by turnovers cant get even one, you’re going to have a hard time winning. There’s only one thing left to do for the Catamounts this season, and that’s put VMI out to pasture.
The Keydets are an abysmal 1-10 with zero wins in SoCon play. VMI only averages 18.5 points per game and only converts 27.45 percent of all 3rd downs. The Keydets average only 293,1 yards per game, making them the 109th best offense in the country. Its safe to say that if the Keydets are able to move the ball with success, its time for a coaching change. I am never one to call for someone else’s job, however, I also cant deny with a straight face that the defense has ultimately cost this WCU team a playoff spot.
This isn’t the season that anyone imagined for the Catamounts in 2025. This was finally supposed to be the year. The SoCon title was coming home and playoff football was coming to Cullowhee. Unfortunately, it has become yet another year that never was. There are many hard questions that need to be answered in the offseason. But they cannot be answered until the final whistle blows. The Catamounts take on the VMI Keydets at noon on ESPN+.
