The Furman Paladins (0-0) start their season at the newly remodeled Timmons Arena, under year 3 of Head Coach Pierre Curtis they welcome the North Greenville (0-0) at 7pm. Curtis welcomes the return six letterwinners off last year’s squad, led by 6-foot-1 sophomore forward Clare Coyle, a preseason second team All-SoCon selection coming off an inaugural season that saw her average 6.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Other top returnees include sophomore guards Raina McGowens (6.9 ppg) and Chantelle Stuart (4.2 ppg, 106 ast.).

The Paladins come out on fire against the Trail Blazers and quickly jump out to a 16-4 lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter as Clare Coyle shows why she is an all-conference star for Furman. Sofia Pearl a 5-foot-7 guard from Woodstock, Ga. also comes in hot and helps Furman get out front. Curtis has had lots of rotation so far against the Trail Blazers and keeping his group fresh against a small team. The Paladins finish off hot with 5-foot-11 sophomore guard Alyssa Ervin scoring huge and Coyle with 24-4 lead over the Trail Blazers.

The Paladins come out fast again and push the ball well and with 6 minutes left in the second quarter have a 33-6 lead over the visiting Trail Blazers as we head to a media timeout. Clare Coyle leads with points 8 and rebounds 6, and Chante Stuart leads with assist 3 at this point in the game. The score is 33-6 with 3:52 left in the first half, the Lady Trail Blazers have just not had any luck in baskets going in or great shots. Furman has imposed its will on them so far in the game, but they are not giving up. The Paladins with a minute left have pulled away with a shift change and its 41-8. The half ends with Furman 42-11 lead and a huge battle for the Trail, Blazers to overcome.

Furman in the first half had 26 points in the paint compared to 8 by North Greenville which was the biggest telling part of the game. Furman also had 13 points off fast breaks, 19 points coming from its bench, and 16 points off turnovers. The Paladins once again jump out on the Trail Blazers, with 5 minutes left they have a 56-13 lead as they are getting really physical out there as the Lady Trail Blazers seem to be losing their cool and have committed several fouls in this quarter 5 total. Clare Coyle leads the Paladins with 12 points and 6 rebounds so far in the game, as Furman has cleared the bench and is getting everyone playing time in the game. The end of the third quarter sees the Paladins up 62-15 with the leading scorer Clare Coyle with 12 points and 6 rebounds sitting on the bench most the third to allow new players to shine and gaining minutes for the long season.

The 4th quarter will be more of the same for Furman as they get more players vital minutes to help later in the season, and for North Greenville also to see what they have on the bench as they have subbed out just as much here in the game. Furman is only losing the battle of AEW moves in the game. Coyle goes down hard at the 7:45 mark in the final quarter and is quickly replaced, as Coach Curtis has no need to have her play another minute after a 16-point performance. Alyssia Ervin has come alive in the game to 11 points, Tyriana Berry has 7 points and 6 rebounds at this point also in the game.

This game with 4:39 left during a media break, 78-17 with the Paladins up big over the Lady Trail Blazers. Coach Curtis is just wanting to get out of this game with healthy players as several have had some nasty falls but are still in the game or on the bench resting for the rest of the game. Furman wins 85-27
