A numbers-first look at the Ohio State quarterback

Julian Sayin is playing mistake-free winning football for the number one team in the country. He is not just accurate. He is historically accurate while pushing the ball and delivering in money situations. Add a top-ranked team profile and his case looks like the strongest in the sport.

The Headline Numbers

Through eight games Sayin is 176 for 218. That is an 80.7 percent completion rate with 2,188 yards, 23 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. His passer rating sits at 197.1 and his Total QBR is 90.9, which is first in the nation as of November 2.

Game over game the production is steady and spikes in big spots. He threw for 393 yards and 4 touchdowns in the shutout win at Wisconsin and followed with 316 yards and 4 touchdowns on 20 of 23 against Penn State in Columbus.

Advanced Context That Matters

Ohio State is graded as the number one team in the country by opponent-adjusted expected points. The Buckeyes rank first in overall team EPA margin with elite pass efficiency on offense and defense. That team-level dominance gives Sayin a strong stage and it reflects how efficient the passing game has been snap to snap.

He also has four games this season with at least 85 percent completions, 300-plus passing yards and three or more passing touchdowns. No other quarterback has more than one such game. That’s separation.

Money Downs and the Red Zone

Situational stats show how his efficiency scales when the defense knows it must get a stop. On third down Sayin is 36 for 46 which is 78.3 percent for 344 yards with 8 touchdowns and zero interceptions. In the red zone he is 30 for 42 which is 71.4 percent with 15 touchdowns and only one interception. That is ruthless production where drives usually stall.

He is also excellent late. In second halves he is 69 for 82 which is 84.1 percent with 10 touchdowns and one interception. That is what you want from a Heisman quarterback in close games.

Efficiency With Real Depth

This is not empty accuracy. Sayin averages 10.0 yards per attempt and has 39 completions of 15-plus yards and 21 completions of 25-plus yards. He also owns eight passing touchdowns of 20 or more air yards. That blend of precision and explosiveness is rare.

The Clean Sheet

Turnover avoidance is a Heisman separator. Sayin sits at only three interceptions on 218 attempts. He has not thrown an interception on third down and he has one in the red zone despite heavy usage there. The Buckeyes are getting elite ball security from the most important position.

The Team Case That Voters Value

Voters reward elite players on elite teams. Ohio State is unbeaten and rates number one in opponent-adjusted EPA with top-tier pass offense and the top pass defense. The program profile lifts his candidacy and his play is the reason the offense hums.

Bottom Line

Sayin checks every box. He has volume and elite efficiency. He has money-down production. He has signature wins. He leads the best team profile in the sport. If he closes November with the same command, he owns the inside lane for the Heisman.

Quick Stat Box

Completion rate: 80.7 percent Yards per attempt: 10.0 TD to INT: 23 to 3 Total QBR: 90.9 (1st nationally) Third down passing: 36 for 46 with 8 TD and 0 INT Red zone passing: 30 for 42 with 15 TD and 1 INT Back-to-back showcase games: 393 yards and 4 TD at Wisconsin, 316 yards and 4 TD vs Penn State
