AEW Dynamite
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite was the fallout edition after WrestleDream. Catch up on the aftermath and the storylines that are now heading towards Full Gear.
AEW Tag Action
The opening match was a Trios match between The Opps and The Hurt Syndicate. It was a relatively short match to set up Samoa Joe on the mic to explain why he attacked “Hangman” Adam Page. His answer was quite simple – he is the opposition, and he wants championships.
After Darby Allin cut a promo to tell everyone how much he loves wrestling for company, fans were treated to a four-team tag match. The winning team would choose their opponent in the first round of the upcoming tournament to crown the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions. The teams comprised of Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne, Julia Hart and Skye Blue, Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale, and Queen Aminata with Jamie Hayter. Fairly uneventful for the number of people in the ring, and an interesting choice to give it to a team that doesn’t work together on television, Hayter and Aminata.
AEW Women’s Storylines
Renee Paquette called out Mercedes Mone to celebrate her played-out title gimmick, which is being pushed even further; however, that’s not who first appeared. A puppet appearing as Mone, assumed to be controlled by Harley Cameron, started to make fun of. The real Mone appeared, but was blindsided by the Women’s Champion, Kris Statlander. The two face off at Full Gear.
The Conglomeration & Deathriders
Kyle O’Reilly versus Jon Moxley was next. It certainly had the best classic wrestling of the evening, with elite ground and chain work. Instead of tapping out, Moxley knocked out the referee while in a submission, which got the match thrown out. This resulted in The Conglomeration and Deathriders fighting in the ring, who then had a trios match. It was an entertaining bout with numerous believable false finishes, ending in a Jay Driller from Mark Briscoe.
Dynamite Main Event
Kyle Fletcher and Briscoe cut a promo that led to another title match between the two, before Kazuchika Okada defended the Continental Championship against Bandido. While it never felt like Bandido had a chance from a realistic point of view, the match was amazing. Takeshita came to the ramp post-match to further foreshadow the splitting of the two.
