The No. 13-ranked Wake Forest women’s soccer team (9-2-3, 3-1-2 ACC) remained unbeaten at home after a 1-1 draw with the Louisville Cardinals (10-3-1, 3-2-1 ACC) Thursday night at Spry Stadium. With tonight’s result, the Demon Deacons are now 3-1-2 in conference play and are tied fourth in the ACC with 11 points. Both teams remained evenly matched at the jump, but Wake Forest soon found their footing.

In the 30th minute, freshman forward Allie Flanagan found a rebound off the goal post to give the Demon Deacons the 1-0 lead headed into the half. Despite the first half efforts from the Cards, Wake Forest maintained 57 percent possession and outshot Louisville 6-2 after 45 minutes. Ultimately, the Cardinals found the back of the net in the 82nd minute to tie the match and force the 1-1 decision. With two saves on the night, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Valentina Amaral has now recorded a career-high 46 saves on the season, surpassing her previous total of 45 from last season.

Junior defender Sammi Wiemann and senior forward Alex Wood made their first starts of the season, which marked Wiemann’s first of her career. In total, 20 different Demon Deacons have made starts during the 2025 campaign.

From Coach da Luz
“We played an excellent first half, executed our game plan and played with control. I’m really happy for Allie Flanagan scoring again and Sammi Wiemann getting her first start and playing really well. Brooke Miller also excelled in a new position. Our second half lacked composure down the stretch, but to draw against a good Louisville team is a fair result. Now we prepare for Clemson on the road on Thursday.”
