The No. 18-ranked Wake Forest women’s soccer team (7-1-1, 1-0-0 ACC) completed the non-conference portion of the 2025 season with a 6-2 victory over USC Upstate (3-4-1, 0-0-0 Big South) on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium.

After consistent early pressure from the Demon Deacons, freshman Allie Flanagan scored the contest’s first goal in the seventh minute through a great individual effort. USC Upstate, however, leveled the match just minutes later before Kylie Maxwell reached 10 points on the season with her goal in the 26th minute. Upstate once again evened the scoreline with a 31st-minute strike.

In an action-packed first half, graduate Sophie Faircloth once again put Wake Forest back in front with a pair of goals in the 35th and 40th minutes. It marked the Winston-Salem native’s first brace since scoring a pair against Virginia Tech on Oct. 29, 2020.

In the second half, senior Brooke Miller extended the lead with a bar down goal in the 62nd minute. Freshman Alejandra Gomez then tallied her first collegiate goal in the 67th minute with a rocket from distance.
With the result, the Demon Deacons over the last four seasons are 19-0-3 against non-conference opponents in regular season action. In those 22 games, the Deacs have outscored opponents 59-5. Additionally, Wake Forest at Spry this season has secured six clean sheets while outsourcing the opposition 16-4.

Wake Forest’s six goals on the afternoon were also the most in a match since scoring six against Iona during the 2023 campaign. Prior to the match, Wake Forest honored two seniors in Taryn Chance and Victoria Coninck.

From Coach da Luz
“Proud of the team. We had positive contributions from so many players today. Upstate gave us a good game in the first half. We were able to control the second half and scored some high-quality goals. Alejandra’s first goal, Faircloth scoring two in her comeback and Brooke Miller scored a stunning goal! We are in good position heading into ACC play. We will need to keep improving to make a run.”

WELCOME BACK SOPHIE‼️
