
The Furman volleyball team rallied back to defeat the North Florida Ospreys 3-2 (25-20, 12-25, 17-25, 25-10, 15-10) in a five-set thriller Friday evening on day two of the Furman Invite at Alley Gymnasium.

The Paladins had four players finish with 10 or more kills in the contest led by Ashley Stein, who registered a match high 12 kills. The sophomore from nearby Easley added seven digs, five blocks (one solo, four assisted), and two service aces. Izzy Castelloe and Tennyson Gorman both compiled 11 kills, and Lindsay Walch provided 10. Gorman hit .450 for the match and totaled six blocks for the third time in five matches. Lindsay Walch posted 10 kills. Emily Navarro turned in her team leading fourth double-double this year on 27 assists and 10 digs. Kennedy Seekford paced Furman with 13 digs.

Yarimar Francis Garay led the Ospreys with 11 kills on .529 hitting while Sofia Dawson and Kacey Kazmierski both dished out 22 assists. Julianna Santiago had a team high 10 digs.

The Paladins jumped out to the early 1-0 lead following a 25-20 victory in the first set highlighted by a .379 hitting percentage. Walch hit .714 and led the team with five kills. Navarro and Quinn Morrissey each contributed five assists. Seekford collected five digs. North Florida trimmed Furman’s lead to 12-11 before the Paladins used a 10-5 run late to go in front 22-16 after back-to-back service aces from Gorman. Castelloe clinched the set with her kill.
The Ospreys responded with a 25-12 victory in set two and 25-17 in set three to go ahead 2-1 heading to the fourth. Furman was limited to -.074 hitting in the second set and .081 in the third while North Florida answered with .370 and .360 clips, respectively.

The Paladins would force and fifth, and deciding, set after cruising to a 25-10 triumph in the fourth behind a .414 hitting performance. Three different players had three kills apiece with Navarro tallying eight assists and Stein four digs. Furman scored seven of the first eight points and built a 10-3 advantage early leading to a UNF timeout. The Paladins outscored the Ospreys 9-4 after the break and led 19-7 when Gorman and Eva Wheeler combined for a block. Furman secured the set with kills by Walch and Kacie Moore.
North Florida now leads Furman 2-1 after taking the third set, 25-17.
The Paladins are hitting .129 for the match.

The fifth set saw the score tied a total of six times as the teams traded the first 12 points. North Florida would take a 10-9 lead before Gorman evened the score again with her kill. Gorman’s kill sparked a 6-0 run to end the match and teamed up with Castelloe to capture the match on their combination block. The Paladins concluded the match hitting .203 and held a 54-50 advantage in kills and 53-47 in assists. Furman tied its season high of 12 blocks led by Gorman’s six and five each from Stein and Moore.
