Catamounts Look for First Football Win Against the Phoenix

By Coach Steve
The Cats from Cullowhee look to continue a strong week for Catamount athletics in a matchup with the Elon Phoenix at 2:30 PM this Saturday on ESPN+. Despite being listed as QB1 on the depth chart, Taron Dickens will once again not play due to suspension. This almost certainly means Bennett Judy will get the start for Western against the Phoenix. Elon is coming off an absolutely dominant 55-7 performance against the Davidson Wildcats. Phoenix starting QB Landen Clark went 15/24 for 247 yards passing with 3 TDs and another TD on the ground.
The numbers don’t give us an accurate picture of what this game might look like. Elon faced Duke in their season opener, and WCU faced Wake Forest in Winston-Salem last week, so just looking at team stats wont give us an accurate picture of the matchup. However, if you look at each team’s FCS vs FCS games, things start to clear up a bit. Here’s what we know: We know that the WCU defense is going to get pressure and create turnovers at a higher than average rate. We know that Landen Clark is a legitimate dual-threat QB. And we know Western is going to want to run the dang ball. Buckle up, folks, I think this might be a close one. Western takes it, 27-24. See you Sunday, Go Cats
