New Coach, Fresh Energy: Wofford Men’s Soccer Enters 2025 With Optimism
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — There’s a different energy around Snyder Field this fall. With Ryan Osborne stepping in as head coach, Wofford men’s soccer looks ready to turn the page.
Osborne Takes Over
Osborne inherits a roster of 33 players — 18 returners and 15 newcomers. That’s a big mix, but it also means fresh competition across the field.
“I really like the group we’ve got,” Osborne said after the team’s first practice. “I think it’s a hard-working group that’s going to want to continue the process to get better each and every day.” (Wofford Athletics)
Key Players to Watch
In goal, senior Gavin Raff brings experience while sophomore Pepe Hinterschuster adds depth and international flair. On defense, senior Jakob Andersson is back as the anchor of the back line.
The midfield will be led by juniors Max Talley and Nick Dyer, both steady presences. Up front, senior forward Nathan Simes, a transfer from Fordham, is expected to be a go-to scoring option.
Freshmen Edvin Laangdahl of Sweden, Bear Rice of Raleigh, and Sebastian Eranka of Finland could all see minutes right away.
Style of Play
Osborne has made his vision clear. “When fans come out to our matches, they are going to see a really hard-working team,” he said. “We will be a team that’s dynamic, that wants to play forward … but also structured defensively and composed.” (Wofford Athletics)
Key Matchups
The schedule is challenging. An early road trip to NC State will test the Terriers against ACC competition. Later, a matchup at Wake Forest could be the biggest measuring stick of the year.
At Snyder Field, Wofford hosts eight games. The SoCon opener against VMI will set the tone for league play. Matches with Mercer and UNC Greensboro, both top programs, are likely to carry major postseason implications.
Building Momentum
Osborne knows results won’t come right away, but he’s focused on progress. “Our goal is to get better every game,” he said. “If we keep raising our level, the results will take care of themselves.” (Wofford Athletics)
Call to Fans
This season feels like the start of something new. With a fresh coach, new faces, and big matchups on the horizon, Snyder Field should be a lively spot this fall.
