Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (11-7) played host to the Fredericksburg Nationals (12-7) in a Friday evening contest. The Mudcats entered tonight’s contest .5 games ahead of the Fredericksburg Nationals in the second half North Division standing. The Mudcats sent Jayden Dubanewicz (3-1) to the mound who entered tonight’s game with a 2.28 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched. The Nationals sent Bryan Polanco (5-6) to the mound who entered tonight’s game with a 3.91 ERA in 71.1 innings pitched. Jesus Made was selected to represent the Milwaukee Brewers in the futures game on Saturday, July 12th.
The Nationals struck in the top of the third when Kevin Bazzell scored on an error by Jayden Dubanewicz which gave the Nationals a 1-0 lead. The National struck again in the top of the 4th when Nate Rombach and Jorgelys Mota scored on a double down the first base line by Roismar Quintana which increased the Nationals lead to 3-0. The Mudcats responded in the bottom half when Tyler Rodriguez scored on a infield single by Gery Holguin which cut the deficit to 3-1. The Nationals responded in the top of the 5th when Nathaniel Ochoa Leyva scored on a double to right by Nate Rombach which expanded the Nationals lead to 4-1. Then, Nate Rombach scored on an error by Filippo Di Turi which increased the Nationals lead to 5-1.
The Mudcats responded in the bottom half when Eric Martinez hit a solo home run to right field which cut the deficit to 5-2. The Mudcats struck again in the bottom of the 7th when Eric Martinez scored on a single by Luis Pena which cut the deficit to 5-3. The Nationals slammed the door in the bottom of the 9th which secured the 5-3 victory.
Bryan Polanco threw 5 innings where he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits. Johan Otanez threw 2 scoreless innings where he allowed only had 1 walk. Ethan Dorchies threw 3 scoreless innings where he only allowed 1 hit and 1 walk.
The winning pitcher for the Nationals was Bryan Polanco for his 5 innings where he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits. The losing pitcher for the Mudcats was Jayden Dubanewicz for his 6 inning where he allowed 5 runs on 8 hits. The save went to Johan Otanez for his 2 scoreless innings. The Mudcats record fell to 11-7 in the second half while the Nationals record improved to 12-7 in the second half. The Fredericksburg Nationals exited the night with a .5 game lead in the North Division second half standings. The Mudcats continue the series Saturday evening at 5 pm at Five County Stadium.
Manager Stanley met with the media following the conclusion of the game. When asked about the status Josh Adamczewski, Manager Stanley said:
“I think it’s close. Don’t know exactly when at the moment, but we’re looking forward to having him back.”
When asked about Jesus Made representing the Brewers at the futures game, Manager Stanley said:
“Yeah it’s pretty special. It’s day to day getting to watch a talent of that caliber is fun to watch. It’s fun to watch them developing, go through this new experience and let that talent shine through.”
