0 How many of you love the game of baseball? I played in high school and collegiately for a brief time, and my love of the game has never dwindled. You may hear some folks say that baseball is romantic, or you could hear someone say it is boring. You could possibly hear someone compare baseball to chess, which wouldn’t be far off, based on the intricacies and nuance to the game of baseball. At the end of the day, wherever you may stand on the sport of baseball, there is no denying how entertaining it is regarding the teams playing their way to the College World Series.
As you can see from the post above, baseball does not care what your preseason rankings are. Baseball does not care what your national seed is. Baseball just does not care and will always reward the team that is better that day. That is how we see the number one overall seed, Vanderbilt, lose in their home regional to Wright State. We also saw Clemson lose in their regional to Kentucky and West Virginia. We saw other good regular season teams like Texas, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Tennessee all lose regionals in their stadium. Baseball is how we see a number three seed in a regional, Miami, beat a two seed in Alabama and a one seed in Southern Miss. Baseball is a sport where you can see a team like the Murray State Racers make it all the way to the College World Series. Just take a look at what Murray State has going on with their baseball program in this post.
The Murray State head coach makes sixty-eight thousand dollars a year, cuts the grass on the baseball field, and most importantly is playing baseball in Omaha in June. Baseball does not care what conference you are from, how much your roster cost in NIL, or who puts the tarp on the field, but poetic justice was served when Murray State made it to Omaha. In comparison, a power four conference football equipment manager makes more than this baseball coach, but baseball does not care. When playing baseball, it comes down to fundamentals, execution, and doing what needs to be done. If there is a runner on third base with nobody out, the ball has to be put in play to score that run. Sometimes in baseball, you may have to sacrifice bunt a runner to scoring position, if that’s what needs to be done. Baseball is about being selfless, executing fundamental plays, and pitching. There is no team who has done that better so far this season than Coastal Carolina, in my opinion.
The one team I have not mentioned so far is Coastal Carolina. Some Clemson fans were complaining about their regional draw with West Virginia and Kentucky, yet Coastal Carolina had a tough draw as well with ECU and Florida. Coastal Carolina did not flinch because I think they know, baseball does not care. Coastal Carolina has now won twenty-four games in a row after their opening round win against Arizona at the College World Series. The Chanticleers have put on an absolute baseball clinic. They have great pitching, the execute fundamental plays, plus they do what needs to be done. When I say “doing what needs to be done”, that means they are bunting runners over, the catcher throwing people out stealing, or sometimes just hitting the ball where the defense isn’t.
If you aren’t tuned in to the College World Series, I highly recommend you all do so. It is some of the most romantic, eccentric, and entertaining baseball of the year. As I said to start, baseball is a “weird” game, and baseball does not care about your conference, rankings, or seed. Baseball will humble individuals and teams, because baseball does not care and ball don’t lie. Also, I want to give a shoutout to a few of my loyal listeners on Southern Fried Sports.
