This was a special 4-hour AEW Dynamite, billed as “Summer Blockbuster,” taking place on June 11, 2025. With such a lengthy event, there will be ups and downs. One moment shone above the rest, listed after the top-three lowlights from Wednesday evening.
No. 3 AEW Dynamite Summer Blockbuster Lowlight
For those unaware, Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega are set to face off at All In. The International and Continental Championships will become the AEW Unified Championship. On this episode of Dynamite, the two went face-to-face in promotion of their upcoming match. This moment was almost a highlight, with two of the best in the world coming together to unveil the new strap.
The segment fell apart. After unveiling a title far less unappealing on the eyes, Don Callis made an appearance to distract Omega, allowing Okada a blindfold attack. They tried to make the moment seem extreme, but it didn’t work.
After being attacked while on the stretcher, Omega started to spit up blood. This, however, was disgustingly obvious: a blood capsule, and the corny selling only hurt the situation. What started out hot ended with an uglier belt and a cheesy ending.
No. 2 AEW Dynamite Summer Blockbuster Lowlight
The AEW Women’s Champion defended her title against Julia Hart. Toni Storm was attacked by Hart’s ally, Skye Blue, during introductions. Storm worked the injury for the entirety, inflicting very little damage on Blue.
Both women looked soft, doing nothing positive for either competitor. After dominating the whole match, Blue lost to a small package. This was a weak match with a poor ending.
No. 1 AEW Dynamite Summer Blockbuster Lowlight
This reason is multi-layered. From the start, four hours is much too long for any wrestling event. Booking such an event on a Wednesday for free TV is very confusing. The lengthy episode surely led to a massive main event.
That would be wrong. The main event featured an eight-man tag. Sure, it featured some popular names, but this match type main eventing such a lengthy and special event is illogical. Could they not find a title match to spotlight?
Dynamite Summer Blockbuster Top Highlight
The highlight of the night was the opening bout of the evening. Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay put on the match of the night, ending in a 30-minute draw. This story can’t be over yet.
The match itself had the best reversals and flow you will ever find in wrestling, resulting in numerous false finishes. These two men were also physical, leaving it all in the ring. When the draw was announced, the participants called for sudden death, only for The Young Bucks to blindside attack Swerve.
The Young Bucks are in a storyline with Swerve, and took this opportunity to inflict damage. After setting him up in the corner, they put on their shoes covered along the bottom in tacks. In a surprise turn of events, Ospreay came out of nowhere, taking the thumb tack super kick in the place of Strickland.
