AEW Dynamite this week is a special Fyter Fest edition. Fans get a PPV-quality card for free on television. Below are the matches confirmed as of Monday, along with predictions.
AEW International Championship Match: Kenny Omega vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brody King vs. Mascara Dorada
After an exhilarating storyline with Will Ospreay, AEW is looking for a new one for International Champion Kenny Omega. While this match doesn’t do much for that, it’s still stocked with talented wrestlers. Brody King has been making a singles name for himself since the departure of Malakai Black, and there is no crisper than Claudio Castagnoli in the ring. Máscara Dorada will add plenty to the match in the ring, but it feels random.
This match is a perfect blend of high-flying and physical. Castagnoli and King are sure to inflict some pain, while Dorada and Omega will provide pace and high spots. The luchador is unlikely to take the title back to CMLL, while Claudio is more tied to the Deathriders and the tag or trios picture. King has earned a title run in AEW, but this isn’t his spot. Omega is an AEW guy, so one would think it would take more of a buildup and storyline for a title drop.
FTR vs. Atlantis Jr & Templario
This is another case of zero build-up meets high-end talent. FTR simply called out any tag team from CMLL on Collision, with Atlantic Jr and Templario walking out to accept. This match featured the elite tag-team work of FTR, with the luchador style of CMLL.
It’s hard to get invested in a last-minute match where the only focus is to feature CMLL talent. With FTR recently turning heel and getting a manager, expect them to be victorious on AEW television against the outsiders.
Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa vs. Skye Blue & Julia Hart
Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa just had a title match, in which they made up afterwards. That said, booking a singles champion in a tag match for a major event is terrible booking for any company. Skye Blue recently returned and made friends with Julia Hart. The two attacked Shirakaw on a Collision, and Storm came to her aid.
This match doesn’t get the blood warm. Blue and Hart haven’t improved; still some of the softest workers in history. There’s no chance they have the AEW Women’s World Champion lose to a mid-card tag team from Collision.
Mark Briscoe vs. Jon Moxley
These two men have crossed passed in trios’ action lately, including Jon Moxley choking out Mark Briscoe. The story goes that his kids asked him if he quit for Moxley, and now he needs to redeem himself. Oddly, they make this a non-title match.
The match is going to be violent and bloody, both men will leave it all in the ring. They have proven the ability to work the hardcore deathmatch style, but still fundamentally sound. With a non-title match, Briscoe may get some outside help, but Mox also has the Deathriders. With an upcoming PPV title match, they won’t book the champion to look weak heading in.
La Faccion Ingobernable vs. Kevin Knight, Mike Bailey, & Komander
This is one of the most famous factions in wrestling history against AEW’s up-and-comers. Various members have crossed paths in different formats, leading up to the trio’s match. Despite having just one luchador, the baby faces in the match have the better hops.
This is the hardest prediction of the night, and can truly go either way. Will AEW put over the newcomers, or will the dominant faction reign victorious? Lean to the faction that has been dominant in wrestling and AEW for a longer time, take LFI.
AEW Dynamite Fyter Fest
There’s more to the card, including Thekla versus an opponent TBA, and The Hurt Syndicate is scheduled to make an appearance. There should be a good mix of classic wrestling, high-flying, and violent mat work. It’s going to be interesting to see if there are any title drops and how the new partnership with CMLL plays out on television.
