AEW Double or Nothing 2025
AEW Double or Nothing is this Sunday at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Championships are on the line, along with the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament. The card is subject to change, as written on Wednesday morning.
Owen Hart Foundation Cup Finals
‘Hangman’ Adam Page and Will Ospreay will meet in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament. The winner heads to All In for a World Championship match. It’s two of the best talents on the roster, but only one title opportunity.
The Owen Cup is a story in itself, following the entertaining tournament bracket on television, leading up to this PPV event. It was first regarded as heel versus baby face, but Ospreay has been trying to turn Page, but the antagonist has been hesitant.
This match is destined for greatness; both men are known for leaving it all in the ring. Ospreay is fresh off an International Championship storyline and is climbing in the company. Hangman is worthy, but it’s time to take the strap to a ‘Whole ‘nother level bruv.”
Double or Nothing will also feature the final of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup, featuring Mercedes Mone versus Jamie Hayter. Considering how selfish she is, combined with the creative control, it’s difficult to take any storyline involving Mone seriously. Expect her to win another piece of hardware to the ridiculous collection she currently peacocks with.
AEW Championship Matches
The Hurt Syndicate is scheduled to defend the World Tag Team Championship against The Sons of Texas. The buildup is shallow, with Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes earning this opportunity just one week earlier. The Syndicate is hot right now, and it would be illogical for them to drop the titles to the ROH champs, especially with such a short storyline. Take Bobby Lashley and Benjamin Shelton to retain.
‘Timeless’ Toni Storm has Mina Shirakawa coming for her Women’s World Championship. After a successful run under the current gimmick, Storm’s character has gone stale as of late. The crowd seems to enjoy Shirakawa, who is yet to get a serious push. Shirakawa versus Mone at All In also makes more sense than Storm.
Other Matches
Daniel Garcia and Nigel McGuinness have a tag match against FTR, who recently added the services of manager Stokely. In summary, the storyline is that FTR turned heel and started attacking people for weeks, with McGuinness and Garcia the ones to stand up to them. There’s no reason to turn one of the best tag teams of all time heel and give them a manager, just to lose to the random team of McGuinness and Garcia. Take the baby faces to look good in a loss.
The PPV has a stretcher match in store between Ricochet and Mark Briscoe. This happened after Ricochet attacked Zach Gowan after their match, and Briscoe came to his aid. Both men have shown a willingness to have violent hardcore matches, as well as technical wrestling abilities. Briscoe has been seen on TV, but is more prevalent in ROH, whereas Ricochet is on a heel push. Expect a bloody Briscoe on the stretcher.
