The first match of AEW Dynamite this week was Jon Moxley versus Katsuyori Shibata in a non-title match. This was a nice change of pace and style for Mox, exchanging in numerous chain segments to pen the match with Shibata. They mixed in some stiff striking for an entertaining match. Moxley won by submission, but was joined by the Young Bucks afterwards.
After a short face-to-face, Moxley left the ring to the Young Bucks. They explained how they attached Swerve at Dynasty to help Adam Page before Kenny Omega came to the ramp. Omega took some personal shots at The Bucks, including calling them cucks.
Omega was going to fight both of them before Okada joined The Bucks. Things were becoming unhinged, as Swerve Strickland and a chair came to even the odds. Omega and Strickland shared a moment of respect before Swerve took to the mic.
Swerve Strickland Vs. Pac
Announcing the start of buck hunting season, Swerve was blindsided by Pac, who was scheduled to have a match with him. The match itself was average, with Swerve winning on his first Swerve Stomp. He took the opportunity to call out The Young Bucks on his way out.
Tag Action On AEW Dynasty
Ricochet, Mortos, Lio Rush, and Action Andretti teamed up to take on Will Ospreay, Mike Bailey, Mark Briscoe, and Kevin Knight. This match felt forced and was a strange way to spend $400,000. The match itself was gimmicky, with many spots done in unison. Ospreay would get the pin on The Beast Mortos.
The Hurt Syndicate celebrated their title defense at Dynasty with a toast in the ring, but were quickly interrupted by MJF. Lashley and Benjamin have been keeping MJF, who has been trying to join The Hurt Syndicate, out of their faction for weeks. Lashley and MJF would start an argument before MVP split them apart.
MVP explained MJF needs three thumbs up to join. Shelton Benjamin was quick to give him the thumbs down, to Lashley’s delight. MVP is the only one interested in MJF in The Hurt Syndicate.
The AEW Women’s World Champion, Toni Storm, joined the commentary desk to watch the first round match in the Owen Hart Tournament to determine the number one contender. Thunder Rosa versus Kris Statlander was the match. There were some entertaining spots, but many of the reversals were slow and choppy.
The false finishes improved near the end of the match. Statlander hit her finisher, a modified piledriver (Straturday Night Fever), to secure the win. Statlander moves on in the Owen.
Chris Jericho and The Learning Tree hosted a talk show segment next. He lost the ROH World Heavyweight Championship to Bandito at Dynasty, while Big Bill and Bryan Keith lost their title opportunity. Bill took time to voice his frustration with how Jericho has been treating them lately. Jericho snapped, breaking the set and explaining how disappointed he is. After an uncensored f-bomb, Jericho made his exit.
AEW Dynamite Main Event
Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castingoli versus Hook and Samoa Joe was the main event. The match was average, with a cheesy triple rear naked choice giving the win to The Opps. The Deathriders, angry over the loss, attacked Hook, including an Equalizer from Claudio on to a chair. The Deathriders powdered before Samoa Joe challenged them to a trios title match.
