We all know that football is the leader of the pack when it comes to college athletics but tomorrow is a huge day for Gamecock athletics aside from football in my opinion. Tomorrow, you have the softball team playing a rubber match against #20 Ole Miss, the baseball team looking to win their first SEC series against Mississippi State, and most importantly, there is this whole women’s basketball national championship game as well. Baseball and softball play at 2pm eastern standard time, while the women’s basketball team starts at 3pm eastern standard time. While I know that all the fans can’t possibly be at all these locations at the same time, we need everyone to get their rest, show up and show out.
Gamecock softball won their first game against Ole Miss yesterday, and they played an absolute dog fight today. Ole Miss was up 1-0 in the bottom of the 6th. The Gamecocks were able to push across a run to tie the game. However, in the top of the 7th, Ole Miss was able to push one more run across making it 2-1. The Gamecocks did have a couple of baserunners in the bottom of the 7th but were unable to push across the tying run to send it into extra innings. They will face the Ole Miss Rebels against tomorrow at 2pm eastern time in a rubber match that the Gamecocks definitely need to win.
The Gamecock baseball team started off their weekend series against Mississippi State with a 7-3 win on Friday night. Despite that win, they ended up behind the eight ball on Saturday falling behind 6-1 early on in the game. They did battle back with a few home runs but unfortunately ended up losing by a tally of 11-4. The Gamecocks have only had the chance to play for one other SEC series win this year that they did not win against Oklahoma. The baseball team definitely needs to get this series win, as the schedule only continues to get tougher as the season goes along.
I saved the best for last, as the Gamecocks’ Women’s basketball team will play at 3pm eastern tomorrow for a chance to win back-to-back national championships. Dawn Staley has taken this program to ridiculous heights, and we are so blessed to have her as a coach. I find it quite ridiculous that her words were taken and turned against her today when asked about Paige Bueckers and UConn. From what I gathered, she said that all the media attention and focus shouldn’t just be on one player from one team much like it was with Caitlin Clark last year. She simply said that all of the players are deserving of attention and praise, instead of just focusing on one singular player. With Dawn saying that, people have taken her words and twisted them into her talking badly about UConn and Paige, which simply isn’t the case. I encourage you to listen to the question and her answer before judging.
With all this in mind, Gamecock fans have a huge day of sports other than football to pay attention to tomorrow. I wish all the ladies and men the best. I certainly will be tuned in and locked in throughout the day. For more short videos, opinions, and shows, please subscribe to my YouTube channel.
