AEW Dynamite opened with a bang, Jon Moxley attacking Jay White during his interview in the opening seconds. FTR and Cope ended up in a fight with other members of the Deathriders as the two brawled backstage to the ring. With a spear to Claudio Castagnoli, Cope took the mic to challenge Moxley for his title at Revolution. Once again, Moxley refused. White grabbed the mic and challenged them to a tag match at Grand Slam.
AEW Dynamite Action
The first match of AEW Dynamite saw Will Ospreay against Mark Davis. Known up to this point as a friend to Ospreay, the heel-turn with Don Callis came unexpectedly. Davis was in control early, laying in some stiff chops. Ospreay reversed and showed off his high-flying abilities. Both men have believable false finishes to this point. Davis tore the padding off the turnbuckle, only for the referee to notice. Ospreay took advantage of the distracted Davis, hitting a Blade Runner for the win.
After the match, Ospreay took to the mic. Ospreay brought out his new tag partner, Kenny Omega. Omega and Ospreay are scheduled against Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher at Grand Slam.
Tag Team Action On AEW Dynamite
Fresh off winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship, The Hurt Syndicate had an in-ring promo on AEW Dynamite. Gunn Club showed up just as they announced they were opening for challengers. The two sides shook hands on a title match next week.
Hounds of Hell versus Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita was next. It was a stiff contest with believable false finishes both ways. Fletcher got the pin for his team after an enormous brainbuster on Brody King.
MJF Drama On AEW Dynamite
Max Caster interrupted an MJF promo, only to be interrupted by Adam Page. Things wouldn’t end there, with Dustin Rhodes coming out seconds later. Rhodes is tired of how personal MJF has been getting amongst others, wives, addicts, and the deceased.
MJF responded by targeting Rhodes’ late great-father. After living in the shadow of Dusty Rhodes, MJF claims Dustin now lives in the shadow of his little brother, Cody. A brawl ensued, with MJF ultimately using a low blow.
Women’s World Champion On AEW Dynamite
AEW Women’s World Champion, Mariah May, was a guest announcer for Queen Latifa versus Toni Storm. May was not impressed by Storm, who dressed up to play the role of May. It was a painfully slow match, with a cringe effort from Storm to mock May. Storm won using Mariah May’s finisher. May will defend the title at Grand Slam.
New York Minute On AEW Dynamite
Powerhouse Hobbs interrupted a “New York Minute” from The Learning Tree by starting a three-on-one brawl. The Outrunners rushed out to even the odds. Hobbs and Big Bill would try to determine who had the best chokeslam, at the expense of ringside security. AEW officials eventually split up the commotion.
AEW Dynamite Main Event
The main event was Swerve Strickland versus Ricochet. Strickland was blindsided with a steel chair during his entrance. Ricochet tossed Strickland into the ring to start the match and started with a vicious running knee.
Strickland stopped Ricochet’s momentum with a unique spot, slamming him on the top of the ringside barricade. One of the best false finishes was Ricochet kicking out of a Swerve Stomp. Ricochet used a low blow to reverse another Swerve Stomp and pinned the debilitated Strickland.
