Will Ospreay opened AEW Dynamite this week with a match against Brian Cage. Don Callis interrupted the start of the match to direct Ospreay’s attention to the Jumbotron, where Kenny Omega was being jumped. Cage took advantage of the distraction to be in control early.
The two worked well together with Cage’s strength and Ospreay’s athleticism. After a nice back-and-forth, Cage slowed the pace with stiff chops and powerful slams. Ospreay mounted a comeback which included nice high spots, but for the second time this match, he was distracted by The Don Callis Family. This led to a stiff powerbomb and a close false finish. Ospreay forced some friendly fire within The Don Callis Family, leading to his victory.
Lance Archer and Brian Cage jumped Ospreay after the match. Chair in hand, Kenny Omega stormed the ring to even the numbers. That is until Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita made it four on two. The segment ended awkwardly with The Don Callis Family laying in soft boots for an absurd amount of time.
Jeff Jarrett Storylines On AEW Dynamite
Claudio Castagnoli and Jeff Jarrett was the next match, with Jarrett getting a title shot against Jon Moxley if he won. Castagnoli was mostly in control early, working in stiff striking, and traditional submissions. Jarrett reversed a Sharpshooter into one of his own, only for Wheeler Yuta to distract the referee. Moxley slid in to provide the assist in Castagnoli’s victory.
Still in the ring following his loss, Jarrett was joined in the ring by MJF, who grabbed a mic. Acting like he was there for support, and after getting close. MJF inflicted further damage to Jarrett.
Ricochet Vs AR Fox On AEW Dynamite
Ricochet versus AR Fox was next. This was a slow match, considering it featured two of the best high flyers. Ricochet was doing it purposely, teasing the crowd with a high spot, and pulling up at the last second. Fox spruced up the match with a 450 splash, but Ricochet kicked out of the false finish to ultimately pick up the victory.
After the match, Swerve Strickland stopped Ricochet from attacking AR Fox with his trademark gold scissors. Strickland and Ricochet faceoff next week on Dynamite.
Jay White Vs Wheeler Yuta On AEW Dynamite
“Switchblade” Jay White versus Wheeler Yuta was next. They put on a stiff contest with momentum going back and forth, but it lacked believable pinfall attempts. White secured the pinfall after hitting his finisher, Blade Runner.
After the match, White delivered another Blade Runner before Moxley and Castagnoli came to help their fellow Deathriders. White was lucky to have Cope and FTR run to the ring. Deathriders powdered, and we’re challenged to a Street fight on Collision.
AEW Women’s And TBS Championships on Dynamite
Mariah May was called to the top of the entrance for an interview. After an easy dig at the town they were in, May delivered a long-winded promo aimed at Toni Storm. May will defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against Storm on February 15, 2025.
Yuka Sakazaki got an opportunity at Mercedes Moné and her AEW TBS Championship. After botching an arm drag, Moné didn’t necessarily make up for it. With simple moves and boring pin attempts, Moné didn’t appear to be putting in much effort, and while Sakazaki was putting in effort, she botched the same springboard move two times in a row. Moné retained after hitting The Money Maker.
