The Braves offense played like a year ago over the weekend against the Rays, as Atlanta was able to take two of three and finally made up some ground on the Phillies. It was a series we’ve all been anxiously waiting for the better part of two months, then the wins will start to come in bunches.
The #Braves today recalled OF Forrest Wall to Atlanta after optioning OF J.P. Martínez to Triple-A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game. Additionally, the club recalled RHP Daysbel Hernández to Atlanta and placed RHP Hurston Waldrep on the 15-day injured list with right elbow…

Following the series, the Braves made several moves on the roster. Hurston Waldrep, who was smacked around again in his second MLB start yesterday, landed on the IL with elbow soreness leading to reliever Daysbel Hernandez heading back in Atlanta.

It’s evident he’s not quite ready to be a contributor at the major-league level right now, at least not as a starter. However, it’s possible he could make an impact as a reliever later in the season if necessary, and his development is extremely important to the future of this organization. Lord knows, this is a team that’s suffered from enough major injuries this season.
The #Braves today selected RHP Grant Holmes to the major league roster. The club also recalled RHP Huascar Ynoa to Atlanta and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow stress reaction. LHP Ray Kerr was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game.

As you can see in the tweet above, the Braves also made an adjustment to their outfield, calling up Forrest Wall to replace J.P. Martinez.
Final: Rays 8, #Braves 6.

Just like the final spot in the rotation, Alex Anthopoulos is also searching for some stability in the outfield. With Ronald Acuña Jr. out for the season, guys like Martinez and Wall have an opportunity to get in games and make a significant impact. Martinez got the first crack, and now Wall will get his.

Wall is most known for his speed and defense, but he’s been tearing the cover off the ball in Gwinnett, hitting .287 with an .808 OPS. He’ll have a real shot to prove he should stay in Atlanta for good over the next couple of weeks, and how he performs could impact how the Braves approach the trade deadline.
