Auburn, AL- It started rough on the Plains for the #19 Auburn Tigers, as the Governors of Austin Peay scored three in the first inning on a three-run home run off the bat of third baseman, Brody Szako. Auburn starting pitcher, Carson Myers, would get into more trouble in the first inning after having the bases loaded with less than two outs, but he was able to get out of the inning giving up no more runs.
Not our day.

“It was pretty lethargic pretty rough outing by our guys, and it all started on the mound,” Auburn Head Coach Butch Thompson said on today’s game.
All in all, Austin Peay would bat nine in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, Auburn answered back with two of their own with Mason Maners starting things off with a single and a Cooper Weiss home run off of the scoreboard.
The second inning Myers was able to navigate mostly unscathed giving up only one base runner. However, innings three and four Auburn ran into trouble giving up a run in the third and Hayden Murphy giving up the second coming from a solo shot by John Bay to lead off the fourth inning.

Auburn really didn’t threaten much until the eighth inning when Ike Irish went deep for a two-run blast, but by that point, Auburn was still down seven.
“I really think in seven innings we really had one swing and that was Weiss’.” -Butch Thompson
Three victims on the day for @ikeirish18. 🚷

The pitching staff walked 9 hit 3 batters and gave up 15 hits. On top of that, the defense had 7 errors and two more plays could have gone either way as an error.
“I think that’s the worst game I’ve been a part of as head coach at Auburn, and I’ll take ownership of that.”

There were a few bright spots in the game. Ike Irish threw out three would be base stealers and Parker Carlson was one of the pitchers that was able to throw strikes going 1.1 innings no runs one walk and one strike out.

“He (Parker Carlson) was a bright spot today with the breaking ball and the fast ball enough that he’s done that more consistently and that was the missed opportunity for a few guys today to kinda show us something in that setting.”
Big time! @DylanWatts2022 gets back-to-back Ks to end the frame.

Auburn would tack on two in the eighth and two in the ninth to close the gap somewhat, but not nearly enough. The Tigers fall 15-6 to Austin Peay and will play the “Rubber” game tomorrow at 1pm ct at Plainsman Park.
