South Carolina is the only undefeated team left in college basketball men’s or women’s. They are coming off of their 43rd straight SEC regular season victory breaking Pat Summit record of 42. It was also Coach Dawn Staley’s 600 career win. 6’7” center Kamilla Cardosa set out this game and did not play.

So happy to celebrate these seniors today! 😺

The Game started with an 11-2 run by South Carolina. Several whistled led to 7-7 from the free throw line for the Gamecocks in the first quarter. It also didn’t help that the Cats shot 4-17 from the field. Saniah Tyler and Maddie Scherr both had 4 each as the only Cats who scored. Kentucky trailed 25-8.

In the second quarter Ajae Petty began to show herself as she scored 7 and had missed opportunities from the free throw line as well. The Cats hung tough in the second only being out scored 17-14. Tyler and Petty both had 7 and Scherr had 6 to lead the Cats.

The Gamecocks are super talented. They can go 10-12 deep and not have any drop off in skill or talent. Midway through the fourth quarter, they had 7 players between 8-14 points, even without Cardosa. They had built a 90-50 point lead. Kentucky was outmatched all day by the number ranked team.

Petty led the Cats with 16, Tyler 15 and Scherr had 11 points. The Gamecocks had 6 players in doubles figures.
