Greenville Swamp Rabbits vs. Norfolk Admirals

The Swamp Rabbits (29-16-7-0) headed to Norfolk Admirals (13-37-1-3) for an important playoff spot for the Swamp Rabbits as they try to pull away from the Solar Bears after beating them two days prior. The Rabbits start off the game with an urgency to get this game in the win column and the Admirals are coming off some great performances of late trying to get the team heading in the right direction. Greenville starts the night off with a huge score at the 12:52 mark, Ethan Somoza strikes the net first, and its 1-0 Rabbits take the lead. As the game ends the first period, we go into the second period 1-0 Swamp Rabbits in the lead.

We open up the second period with the Rabbits needing to continue going hard to the net and put the game away early. The Admirals will be coming out with urgency to not only get the goal back but send a message they won’t go down without a fight. The Rabbits come out quick and get a score and its 2-0 as Josh McKechney gets the puck in the net, and not much later another Rabbits score by Brannon McManus and its 3-0 already as the Swamp Rabbits show they want to put the playoff spot away from Orlando. Then come with a quick turnaround Admirals get a score and its 3-1 as they show life, and the fans are finally cheering, and we have a Power Play for the Admirals.

The Admirals on the Power Play get another score and we have a 3-2 game, as the puck looked to be knocked in by a Rabbit, but suddenly Norfolk is out shooting the Rabbits by 7 at this point of the game. The Rabbits fire back a bit later with a score and its 4-2 as “ICE” nets his 19th goal of the year.

The period is starting to come to a end as both teams are firing away at each other and it’s getting physical between the two teams. Norfolk with a fast break attack on the Rabbits leads to a score and we have a 4-3 game. Not long after that Norfolk gets another quick score which makes it 4-4 game as the Admirals are showing they have fight in them. Rabbits are now in the penalty box again for 2 minutes and will try to keep the Admirals out of the net till the end of the period. The horn sounds to end the period, and we are tied at 4-4 with the period up next. The Swamp Rabbits will have to get it together to finish out the game on top.

Norfolk has stormed back to tie it up late in the 2nd.

The third period starts with both teams as expected hammering each other in the boards, a Power play for the Rabbits and they get a score its 5-4 and the lead goes back to Greenville. The game will stay at this score with the Rabbits playing smart hockey keeping the Admirals out the net, and its a minor power play for the Admirals as a Rabbits cross checking gives Norfolk the 5-4 advantage to score. Yet with a quick takeaway the power play becomes a 4 on 4, then the Admirals commit a too many men on the Ice which leads to a 4 on 3 for Greenville power play. The Rabbits now a 5-3 power play but it bounces wide, with 20 seconds left go up 6-4 as Ethan Somoza gets the hat trick and the Swamp Rabbits win the game.
