Furman (3-1, 1-0 SoCon), fresh off a 31-13 win over Samford in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, will look to notch its fourth consecutive victory over ETSU (2-3, 0-1 SoCon), its most recent coming a year ago, 24-21, against the 21st-ranked Buccaneers in Johnson City. Furman gets the ball first and starts moving the ball well against the Bucs of ETSU. The Paladins get the ball to the 40-yard line and end up kicking ball and ETSU will start off at the 20. Furman is able to get the stop after a penalty against them and its ETSU kicking away from the 38-yard line. Furman will now take over from the 25-yard line as the Paladin faithful here on Family Day are liking so far what they are seeing from the defense. The Paladins get the ball but are unable to get a first down and while punting the ball is blocked and ETSU lands on the ball in the endzone and score a touchdown and then get a two-point conversation and its 8-0 ETSU over Furman.

Furman gets the ball back and heads right down the field and now is on the ETSU 10-yard line and is in the Arden’s Burger and Grill Red Zone. The Paladins get in the endzone when Trey Hedden rushes it in and its now 8-7 ETSU still in the lead with just under four minutes to go in the game. Strange turn of events as Furman was going to kick then ETSU jumped offside, Furman took penalty and when hiking the ball was offside and ended up kicking the ball. We head to the second quarter with Furman on the 38-yard line and is trailing 8-7 with 3rd down and 7. Paladins had the most penalties in a quarter 6-50 yards. Ther Bucs get the ball and after a few more penalties, and a fumble where Furman landed on the ball, but then the ball shoots out and ETSU gets it back, they score on a touchdown run and its 15-7 with 9:42 left in the half.

Furman has the ball with two minutes left on the 23-yard line trailing 15-7 and trying to get back in this game before the half. The Paladins on the last drive by ETSU was able to stop them on 4th down on the 40-yard line of Furman. The Paladins now have 3rd and 3 and get set and throw a pass and get a first down to the 15-yard line. Furman has now down to 3rd and 11, they throw a incomplete pass and the field goal unit enter the game to kick from 33 yards out and it’s no good wide right, so ETSU takes over at the 20 with 39 seconds left in the half. They decide to run the ball, then throw a first down pass, then a QB run to the 47-yard line with 9 seconds to go and a timeout. The half ends with Furman getting a huge sack by Stoneking.

The second half starts off with the first play by ETSU being run in for a touchdown, and just like that its 22-7 and Furman will need to respond or be in jeopardy of getting run out of the stadium. Furman does just that and takes the ball down the field and gets a huge touchdown, and now its 22-14 Bucs still in the lead. The Paladins get a huge stop on third down and get the ball back to the offense, and they once again head straight down the field into the Bucs side of the field. ETSU gets a stop on third down, yet Furman gets the field goal and its 22-17 ETSU in the lead with 6:51 left in the 3rd quarter.

ETSU gets the ball and has slowly been making its way down the field thanks to QB #6 Jacolby Criswell, but Furman DE Stoneking #95 gets a huge sack, with ETSU going to kick a field goal which is blocked by #94 Caldwell Bussey. Furman gets the ball at the 29-yard line and needs a score on this drive to give the defense a chance to breathe and also get the game in reach as we have 29 seconds left in the third quarter. The quarter ends with Furman on the 50-yard line 2nd and 8 down 22-17, now 15 minutes left to take this game back.

The Paladins begin with 50 yards to go to get the lead in this game yet need to at least get 3 points from this drive. Furman ends up throwing a interception and ETSU takes back over with the hopes of extending its lead. The Paladins though want the ball back and the defense responds with a huge stop and Furman would get the ball back with 12:30 left in the game and ball at the 20-yard line after a touch back.
Demetrius Baldwin comes up with the 3rd down sack at the FUR 49, forcing a Buccaneer punt. 14:40-4Q

Furman gets the ball and goes straight down the field and now its 4th down at the 16-yard line and Furman will go for it with 7:45 left in the game. ETSU calls a timeout, and the teams will get the direction they need and here could be the call of the game. Furman ends up being a yard short and now ETSU looks to run as much time off the clock, and Furman is needing its defense to yet again make a huge stop. The defense is able to get a stop and ETSU punts away to the 24-yard line. The game is now up to Furman to get the win as they have 5:57 on the clock and 76 yards away from a huge win for Coach Hendrix young team. Trey Hedden has but the team on his back and has 4 complete passes and the ball is at the 47-yard line of Furman. Furman QBs hand is hit, and the ball goes up and a Furman WR #9 Ja’Keith Hamilton catches it and races for a touchdown and its 23-22 with the Paladins going for two and they get it and its 25-22 Paladins in the lead with 3:57 left in the game. The Paladin fans is loud and still cheering on the team and they can feel it. The defense once again now needs yet another stop of ETSU to end this game. The clock stops at 2 minutes and ETSU is at their 39-yard line and its second down and 7. This has been a crazy game of penalties and plays for both sides. The Bucs on third down and rush it and is stopped 1 yard shy of a first down, 1:15 left on the clock as its timeout ETSU and its 4th down. ETSU gets the first down, and the clock runs as the Bucs only have one timeout left. Furman intercepts the pass and runs it back for a TD and the game is over 31-22.
