
The Furman Paladins Men’s soccer team (2-0-1) took on the ACC powerhouse Duke Blue Devils (2-0-0) on a night the greatest American soccer player Clint Dempsey had his jersey retired. A huge crowd turned out for the ceremony before the game as players, former teammates, family, fans and friends celebrated his huge career.

Furman Head Coach Doug Allison was also honored before the game as it is his last year coaching the team and is the winningest coach in Southern Conference history. At the 22-minute mark it’s a 0-0 game with both teams really pushing the ball down the field, with Furman having 3 shots on goal to Duke 1.
Furman at 8 minutes to go gets the first goal, and its 1-0 Furman Paladins over Duke in the first half. Furman’s #19 from #7 with a assist. The Paladin fans erupted as it was chippy with players right before the goal as Duke was given a yellow card. Its halftime and we are at 1-0 and the players have given this huge crowd something to cheer for.

With 39 minutes left in the game Duke ties the game at 1-1, after Furman leads the shots on goal 8-2. Duke’s #23 gets the goal unassisted, getting Duke back into the game. Duke has come alive here in the second half with 5 more shots on goal to be at 6 shots, and Furman has been great defense as goalkeeper Max Miller has been great other than the one ball that slide away from him. the game with 23 minutes left has Furman with 9 shots on goal while Duke has 6 still and we are tied 1-1.
