SPARTANBURG, S.C. — For the second straight match, Wofford women’s soccer came within reach of a win, only to be edged out by a single goal. Sunday’s 1-0 loss to UNC Asheville at Snyder Field showcased the team’s persistence—but also how narrow the margin between a draw and defeat can be.
Wofford (0‑2) put together a determined performance, outshooting the Bulldogs 14‑9 and earning four corner kicks. Defender Delaney Minor sparked the attack early with a shot in the 10th minute, and forward Saachi Bureau nearly found the equalizer with a well-placed attempt in the first half. The Terriers kept pressure high throughout, yet couldn’t convert.
The game’s lone goal came in the 66th minute when Asheville midfielder Lily Adams buried an unassisted effort into the lower right corner, marking her first collegiate goal. Despite the setback, Wofford’s backline remained resilient, limiting Asheville to only three shots on goal while forcing turnovers and challenging every entry into the box. The midfield, too, stood out—linking passes through the middle and keeping Asheville pinned for long stretches of the second half.
Though the final result didn’t go their way, the Terriers dropped both opening games by just one goal, showing they’re close to turning the tide.
Wofford will look to snap the skid Friday night against USC Upstate. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Snyder Field—and students and fans are urged to turn out and bring the energy as the Terriers chase their first win of the season.
