We all want our teams to win on game day. We all want our players to make outstanding plays. We all want bragging rights when we show back up to work Monday morning. However, some fans cannot handle it when their team doesn’t win or when a player misses a game winning kick or catch. I understand the passion that comes along with being a fanatic, but I’ve said before, purchasing a ticket to a game does not give fans the right to be disrespectful or rude to players. Head Coach Brent Dearmon has gone viral with a comment, and I applaud him for putting this out there.
At the end of the day, players and coaches are human beings just like you and me. We often forget, or fail to even realize, these players have personal and life struggles just like the rest of us. Brent’s comments were more directed towards coaches, but the same can be applied to fans as well. His advice is to give players love, service, and care. I could not agree more with the Coach Dearmon. Just take a look at some of the stresses his players have had in just a weeks’ time.
Some of the circumstances that his team has faced in just a week is absolutely heartbreaking. Players have lost their grandparents. Players have had car accidents and their car repossessed. Players have had their homes broken into. An assistant coach even has had their father go into the hospital. So, as I have said and will continue to say, we have no idea what some of these players and coaches go through on a day-to-day basis. As football season approaches, I strongly encourage fans, coaches, and administration to take a moment and think about some of these heartbreaking stories before going online and bashing a kid or coach. Be blessed, not stressed, and just be kind to one another is a saying I use quite often, and it rings very true today. Good luck to all players and coaches this season, and I hope all the fans enjoy their season safely.
