Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (9-11) were set to play host to the Lynchburg Hillcats (11-10) for Friday’s series opener. The Mudcats entered Friday 6.5 games back of the Fredricksburg Nationals (16-6) for first place in the second half standings. The Mudcats were set to send Jesus Rivero to mound who had a 5.40 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched entering Friday’s contest. The Hillcats were set to send Kyle Scott to mound who had a 3.45 ERA in 57.1 innings pitched entering Friday’s contest. Juan Baez was set to return to the lineup for the first time since May 29th.
The official reason listed for tonight’s postponement was wet field conditions. A rain storm delayed the start of the game until after 7:30 pm. The already wet field could not handle the additional delay. This led to a meeting after the tarp was pulled which led to the postponement of tonight’s contest.
The Mudcats are scheduled to begin the series with Lynchburg tomorrow with a doubleheader at 4 pm. This game and the remainder of the series will be played at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC.
