Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (5-4) played host to the Lynchburg Hillcats (5-4) in a Sunday afternoon contest. The Mudcats entered today in a 3 way tie for first place in the second half North Division. The Mudcats sent Jeferson Figueroa (3-2) to the mound who had a 2.28 ERA in 27.2 inning pitched entering today. The Hillcats sent Alex Clemmey (1-3) to the mound who had a 5.29 ERA in 49.1 inning pitched entering today.
The Hillcats got on the board in the top of the first with a 2 run home run by Wuilfredo Antunez which gave the Hillcats a 2-0 lead. The Mudcats responded in the bottom half when Daniel Guilarte scored on a wild pitch that cut the deficit to 2-1. Lynchburg continued their offense in the top of the second with a lead off home run by Rafael Ramirez Jr. which increased the lead to 3-1. The Mudcats responded in the bottom half when Miguel Briceno scored from second on a single by Satchel Norman that cut the deficit to 3-2.
Jose Nova threw 2.2 scoreless innings where he only allowed 1 hit.
The Hillcats scored again in the top of the 6th when Ralphy Velazquez drew a walk that increased the lead to 4-2. The Hillcats closed the door to win the game 4-2.
The Mudcats and Hillcats bullpen only allowed 1 run on 5 hits.
The Mudcats fall back into a tie for second place in the second half. The winning pitcher for the Hillcats was Jack Jasiak who threw 4 scoreless innings where he only allowed 2 hits. The losing pitcher for the Mudcats was Jefferson Figueroa who allowed 3 runs in his 2 innings. The save for Lynchburg went to Kendeglys Virguez who only allowed 1 hit in 2 scoreless innings. The Mudcats return to action tomorrow night at 6:30 pm in Kinston against the Down East Wood Ducks.
