Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (31-17) played host to the Delmarva Shorebirds (15-34) in a Saturday night contest. The Mudcats came into tonight with a 2 game lead over the Fredericksburg Nationals (29-21). The starting pitcher for the Mudcats was Yorman Galindez (0-0) who had a 3.16 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched. The starting pitcher for the Shorebirds was Michael Forret (2-4) who had a 3.44 ERA in 34.0 innings pitched.
Delmarva got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with a bases loaded walk by Cole Urman that scored Anderson De Los Santos which gave Delmarva the 1-0 lead. Delmarva scored again in the top of the fifth with a single up the middle by Leandro Arais which increased the Delmarva lead to 2-0. Jose Acosta made a phenomenal catch on a line drive to 3rd base to keep the score at 2-0. Cooper Pratt got the Mudcats on the board in the bottom sixth with a RBI single down the right field line which cut the deficit to 2-1.
Yorman Galindez threw 4 innings where he only allowed 1 run on 3 hits. Michael Forret threw 5.2 innings where he only allowed 1 run on 4 hits.
The Mudcats scored again in the bottom of the seventh with a fielder’s choice to second by Riedy Mercado that scored Reese Walling which tied the game at 2-2. The Mudcats took the lead with a Victor Torres sacrifice fly to center that scored Jose Acosta to give the Mudcats a 3-2 lead. The Mudcats got a ground ball to 3rd with 2 runners in scoring position to close the ball game.
Jefferson Figueroa threw 3 innings while only allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Harrison Durow threw 2 scoreless innings while he only allowed 2 walks.
The Mudcats improved their lead over the Fredericksburg Nationals to 3 games. The win went to Jefferson Figueroa for his 3 inning performance. The loss went to Isaac Solano for his 2 runs in 1.1 innings. The save went to Harrison Durow for his 2 inning performance. The Mudcats will complete the series tomorrow at 1:00 pm against the Delmarva Shorebirds.
