Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (28-17) played host to the Delmarva Shorebirds (15-31) for game 2 of the series. The Mudcats entered the game with sole possession of first place with a 1 game lead over the Fredericksburg Nationals (28-19). The Mudcats sent Daniel Corniel (2-1) to the mound who entered tonight with a 3.21 ERA in 33.2 innings pitched. The Shorebirds sent Braxton Bragg (1-1) to the mound who entered tonight with a 3.76 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched.
The Mudcats got started immediately in the bottom of the first with a David Garcia double to right field that scored Cooper Pratt and Juan Baez which gave the Mudcats a early 2-0 lead. The Mudcats continued to score in the bottom of the second adding another run 1 run as a Yophery Rodriguez double led to a Cooper Pratt RBI single to center which increased the lead to 3-0. The Shorebirds responded in the top of the third with 6 runs that started with a Leandro Arias double off the wall in right center that scored Cole Urman which cut the lead to 3-1. Aron Estrada then scored on a Anderson De Los Santos single to right which cut the lead to 3-2. The Shoresbirds then added a grand slam by Aneudis Mordán which gave Delmarva a 6-3 lead.
The Mudcats recovered in the bottom of the third with 1 run on a Yhoswar Garcia bloop single to right field which cut the deficit to 6-4. Delmarva scored in the top of the 5th with 2 runs that started with a single to center by Kevin Guerrero that scored Stiven Acevedo which increased the lead to 7-4. Then, Kevin Guerrero was scored on a sacrifice fly by Noelberth Romero which increased the lead to 8-4. The Mudcats closed the gap with a Blayberg Diaz double which cut the deficit to 8-5.
Isaac Solano threw 1.1 scoreless inning where he allowed 0 hits and 0 walks
The Mudcats found the scoreboard in the bottom of the 8th with 5 runs. This started with a bases loaded walk by David Garcia to score Miguel Briceno which cut the deficit to 8-6. Luis Castillo cleared the bases with grand slam to right field to give the Mudcats a 10-8 lead. The Mudcats slammed the door in the 9th inning to get the 10-8 win.
Morris Austin threw 3 scoreless innings where he only allowed 3 hits.
The Mudcats maintained their one game lead over the Nationals in the North Division. The winning pitcher for the Mudcats was Morris Austin who received the win for his 3 inning performance. The losing pitcher for the Shorebirds was Eris Rodriguez who gave up 5 runs in 1.2 innings pitched. The Mudcats play game 3 of the series tomorrow at 6:30 pm against the Shorebirds.
