Tonight’s game in Ashville between the Furman Paladins (26-7) and the Chattanooga Mocs (18-16) for the Southern Conference Championship is also for the Automatic Bid into the NCAA March Madness Tournament’ Furman got here by defeating Mercer73-58, then Western Carolina 83-80 in overtime in a thriller.

To add to the excitement, Furman head ball coach is a finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year award. Plus, the team is out to get 27 wins, something that has never been done in Furman basketball history.

Furman comes out shooting lights out and, on a mission going on a 12-0 run and passing the ball around with ease. The Mocs will need to really have to play smart ball to get back in this game as we go to time out its Furman 28-11 over Chattanooga with 7:58 left in the first half. With 4 minutes left in the half its 30-24 as the Mocs are fighting back into this game. now its 36-29. As we go into the half Furman is up 38-33 as Chattanooga has battled back to make this a game.

We come out of the halftime and Chattanooga starts fighting back and brings it within two points, but Furman gets the monster jam to make it four points ahead 44-40. As we get to the 11-minute mark Furman extends its lead to ten points 58-48, and the Furman fans are getting really excited but know it’s not over. As we keep watching Furman is still keeping its lead, but the Moc’s are fighting back to make it close. With 5 minutes to go the score is now 69-63 with Furman still holding a slim lead as Chattanooga goes on an 8 points run as Furman hasn’t made in to make it 71-66 with 4 minutes left in the game. Now with a media timeout, 3:22 left to go Furman holds a 5-point lead, the fans are getting a true main event basketball fight for the Championship of the Southern Conference. Chattanooga has gone 4 of 5 from 3-point range, while Furman has gone 0-4 in the last four minutes.

Furman comes out of the timeout and nails several shots and its 76-66 with two and a half minutes to go in the game. Chattanooga gets back on the board as they won’t back down, these two teams are getting physical fast here at the end. Now with just a little over a minute left Furman has got a 11-point lead as it’s 81-69 and calls a timeout to get the plan to hold the Moc’s down in the final minute.

Its foul time as Furman nails the shots and its 83-74 as its a 9-point lead now for the Paladins with 43 seconds left in the game. We are close to crowning a SoCon Champion, and it looks like the Furman Paladins may be pulling out the Championship shirts. Now it’s pretty much a done deal with 16 seconds left its Furman 86-UTC 79 as the Furman fans are going wild for their Paladins.
