It’s Christmas time again, and the NFL is coming to your home for the holidays with a wide slate of action on the festive weekend.
Last weekend saw 3 of the top 10 teams in our power rankings lose. It also saw the Las Vegas Raiders score 63 points. The reader can decide which of those is more shocking.
As such, we must make a special holiday update to the Greenville Sports Media NFL Power Rankings. Merry Christmas from GSM, and please enjoy the week 16 power rankings.
1. San Francisco 49ers (Prev. 1)
The 49ers remain comfortably in the first slot of our rankings after handling the Cardinals on Sunday.
2. Baltimore Ravens (Prev. 3)
Christmas day’s matchup between the 49ers and the Ravens could very realistically be a Super Bowl preview.
3. Dallas Cowboys (Prev. 2)
We have officially left “Dallas is winning the Super Bowl” season.
4. Kansas City Chiefs (Prev. 5)
It wasn’t the prettiest game ever, but it was a win.
5. Buffalo Bills (Prev. 6)
Buffalo is back to playing their best football of the year. It’s a numbers game now to see where they slot in the playoff seeding.
6. Philadelphia Eagles (Prev. 4)
What on earth is going on in Philly?
7. Miami Dolphins (Prev. 7)
The Dolphins just have to not mess it up and they win the division. Winning a playoff game? That might be a different story.
8. Detroit Lions (Prev. 9)
The ship has finally been righted in Detroit after a sketchy couple of weeks, and the Lions can now sail happily into the playoffs.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars (Prev. 8)
The Jaguars were simply controlled by the better team in their loss to Baltimore on Sunday night. 3 straight losses in a row have the Jaguars once again fighting to stay atop their division.
10. Cincinnati Bengals (Prev. 10)
Yeah, Jake Browning is good.
11. Los Angeles Rams (Prev. 15)
They just keep finding ways to win.
12. Houston Texans (Prev. 12)
No Stroud, no problem. Just win, baby.
13. Cleveland Browns (Prev. 13)
Is Joe Flacco the answer? Maybe not, but the Browns have won 2 in a row since he’s taken the helm at QB.
14. Denver Broncos (Prev. 11)
Um. Oof. Broncos country wants to get off the ride again.
15. Indianapolis Colts (Prev. 20)
And here come the Colts, galloping around the bend with a playoff berth in sight.
16. Pittsburgh Steelers (Prev. 14)
They aren’t having fun anymore.
17. Tampa Bay (Prev. 21)
Tampa Bay has a hold on the NFC South for now, and they just might keep it.
18. Seattle Seahawks (Prev. 17)
Just when you thought the Seahawks were dead, backup QB Drew Lock pulls out a game winning TD against the Eagles to snap a losing skid in style.
19. Green Bay Packers (Prev. 16)
For a moment, it looked as though the Packers were a shoo-in for the playoffs. Two weeks later, not so much. At least the future is bright in Green Bay.
20. Minnesota Vikings (Prev. 19)
So close, and yet so far. Minnesota still has the edge in the NFC Wild Card race, but things could get interesting from here.
21. New Orleans Saints (Prev. 24)
The Saints are lurking in the NFC South, just waiting for the right time to pounce.
22. New York Jets (Prev. 22)
The Dolphins dashed the hopes of Rodgers’ return, so it looks like the Jets QB savior will have to wait until next season
23. Las Vegas Raiders (Prev. 26)
If you would have told me that the 2023 Las Vegas Raiders would score over 60 points in a single football game, I would have had you drug tested straight away.
24. Atlanta Falcons (Prev. 23)
Losing to Carolina isn’t just a bad loss, it’s THE bad loss.
25. Tennessee Titans (Prev. 25)
Will Levis is hurt, Derrick Henry is mulling his future, and the Titans are falling out of any mathematical chance of making the playoffs that they may have had.
26. Los Angeles Chargers (Prev. 18)
What a year. At least Brandon Staley has finally been fired.
27. Chicago Bears (Prev. 27)
Close only counts in horseshoes and hand-grenades.
28. Arizona Cardinals (Prev. 28)
Duck season! Rabbit season! Caleb Williams season?
29. New York Giants (Prev. 29)
Annnd, right back down to earth. New York’s Italian savior QB can only do so much for them.
30. New England Patriots (Prev. 30)
At least they tried against the Chiefs.
31. Carolina Panthers (Prev. 31)
Their second win of the season! Jubilation in Charlotte.
32. Washington Commanders (Prev. 32)
