The final unbeaten NFL teams have fallen in 2023, and the 1972 Miami Dolphins will remain alone in the “Undefeated champions” club for another year.
The two undefeated members of the top 5 in our power rankings took their first losses in surprising fashion, as the 49ers fell to the Browns and backup QB PJ Walker while the Eagles lost to Zach Wilson and the Jets in dramatic fashion.
The shocking results serve as a wonderful reminder that it truly is “any given Sunday” in the NFL. The unpredictability is what has intrigued (and occasionally angered) fans since the dawn of the NFL.
With the wild finishes of Week 6 accounted for, here are the Greenville Sports Media Week 7 NFL Power Rankings in all of their glory.
1. Kansas City Chiefs (Prev. 2)
The Chiefs, Taylor Swift and all, look like Super Bowl contenders (potentially even favorites) once again.
2. San Francisco 49ers (Prev. 1)
A loss to the Browns dips the 49ers from the top spot in our power rankings, but San Francisco remains the class of the NFC.
3. Miami Dolphins (Prev. 4)
The Dolphins have been record breakingly incredible this season. A SNF showdown with the Eagles will be must watch this weekend.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (Prev. 3)
The Eagles offensive struggles continued in their first loss this season. Still, to be 5-1 with a malfunctioning offense is a pretty heady feat, and speaks to the impressive roster Philadelphia has built. They should be fine.
5. Buffalo Bills (Prev. 5)
The Bills have alternately looked like Super Bowl contenders (when they blew out the Dolphins) and a wildcard team (squeaking it out against the lowly Giants in Buffalo on Sunday). The Bills will need to find consistency if they wish to achieve greatness.
6. Detroit Lions (Prev. 6)
The Lions are 5-1 and in a legitimate race for the #1 seed in the NFC. The hype in Detroit is absolutely unprecedentedly high at the moment.
7. Dallas Cowboys (Prev. 7)
Dallas rebounded from a rough blowout loss with a tight Monday night win over the Chargers, quelling fears of the Cowboys being frauds. The Cowboys are clearly still in the mix for the NFC.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars (Prev. 8)
The Jaguars kept it rolling with a big win over the Colts. Jacksonville is finally seeming to hit their stride after a slow first couple of weeks.
9. Baltimore Ravens (Prev. 9)
The Ravens offense has not looked overly impressive, but they continue to get the job done. You don’t need style points to win football games.
10. Cincinnati Bengals (Prev. 13)
Burrow and his Bengals might be back. 2’s a streak, ladies and gentlemen.
11. Seattle Seahawks (Prev. 10)
A close loss to the Bengals has got to have Seattle worried. Through the first 6 weeks, Seattle’s secondary has been shredded- and the secondary was supposed to be a strength.
12. Los Angeles Chargers (Prev. 11)
The Chargers remain the all time world leader in Chargering™ close football games away.
13. Cleveland Browns (Prev. 16)
Their defense is legit. If the Browns offense can get rolling, Cleveland could threaten for a wildcard berth, or even the AFC North division.
14. Pittsburgh Steelers (Prev. 14)
Coming off a bye.
15. New Orleans Saints (Prev. 12)
The Saints are the latest victims of CJ Strouds and the Texan Train.
16. Houston Texans (Prev. 22)
Texans QB CJ Stroud has a legitimate shot at offensive rookie of the year- in fact he may be the frontrunner. The Texans won’t make the playoffs in all likelihood, but they’re a fun team.
17. Los Angeles Rams (Prev. 18)
Cooper Kupp is back, and maybe the Rams are too.
18. New York Jets (Prev. 23)
Are they bad? Are they good? Are they somewhere in between? An absolute roller coaster of emotions in New York this season.
19. Tennessee Titans (Prev. 17)
If you had to describe the 2023 Tennessee Titans in one word, it would most assuredly be “Meh”
20. Indianapolis Colts (Prev. 15)
With Anthony Richardson likely out for the season, the Colts may be in for a long year of mediocrity.
21. Tampa Bay (Prev. 19)
The creamsicle jerseys are back! Unfortunately, the Bucs played like the old Tampa teams that originally wore the creamsicles in a strange twist of karma.
22. Green Bay Packers (Prev. 20)
Coming off a bye
23. Atlanta Falcons (Prev. 21)
If I told you Arthur Smith coached offenses were fun to watch, I’d be lying to you. At least Bijan Robinson is good.
24. Washington Commanders (Prev. 24)
They won. Best not to talk about that game anymore than we have too.
25. Las Vegas Raiders (Prev. 25)
Josh McDaniels beating Bill Belichick would’ve been a major story about 4 years ago. Now? Not so much.
26. Arizona Cardinals (Prev. 26)
Yeah who cares what they did last week, did you see that Kyler Murray might be back?
27. New England Patriots (Prev. 27)
“Wish I could turn back time. To the good old days.”
28. New York Giants (Prev. 28)
What’s worse- being blown out, or having a big game ripped from your hands at the last moment? Lucky for the Giants, they’ve gotten both so far in this young season!
29. Minnesota Vikings (Prev. 29)
They won a mid-off with the Bears this week. Hooray.
30. Chicago Bears (Prev. 30)
They lost a mid-off with the Vikings this week. Hooray.
31. Carolina Panthers (Prev. 31)
They aren’t having fun anymore.
32. Denver Broncos (Prev. 32)
Yeah this is the NFL’s version of Dante’s Inferno.
