The Paladins start off the game with a host of penalties that slow the first drive leading to an interception which the Catamounts get a TD from on their first series leading to a 14-0 game. The Paladins though would take the next series down the field behind #1 Trey Smith and get a FG to make the game 14-3 with nine minutes left in the first quarter of play.

The Paladins stop the next Catamounts series and are able to get the ball back at the 8-yard line. The Paladins start with the no huddle offense trying to keep the Western defense confused and on the field. The Catamounts are able to hold the Paladins and force them to punt, which is off the side of the foot and lands 18 yards away on the Western sidelines, and its first down Catamounts with 3:28 left in the first quarter. Western is not able to move the ball and goes to punt and it’s blocked by Furman and is run back for a a touchdown and its now 14-10 Catamounts still leading with 2:24 left in the first quarter.
