GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Paladin men’s and women’s cross country teams will open the 2026 season Saturday at the Furman Cross Country Invitational on the Furman University Golf Course.
The races will kick off with the collegiate women’s race at 9 a.m., and the collegiate men’s event will commence at 9:45 a.m. Both 6K races will be held on the cross country course of the Furman Golf Club, which has hosted two NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, and will consist of a 2K loop repeated three times.
In addition to the Paladins, teams competing include Bob Jones, Charleston Southern, Erskine, Gardner-Webb, Lander, North Greenville, and Toccoa Falls.
“With our stakeholder event Friday evening, this meet always constitutes the real start of our season,” said Furman head coach Robert Gary. “The support we receive from the athletic department — especially other teams coming out to cheer us on — is a great illustration of what makes Furman so special.”
Both Paladin teams were picked to win their 14th-straight SoCon titles in 2026. The Paladins, who own the nation’s longest active conference winning streak on the women’s side, extended their run of success last season by scoring 23 points in the women’s race of the 2025 SoCon Championship. Furman captured three of the top five spots and placed six runners among the top nine. The Furman men, who claimed six of the top seven individual spots and scored 20 points last year, extended their league record for consecutive SoCon team titles — a distinction the Paladins claimed in 2023.
