LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – The Gwinnett Stripers (30-31, 68-67) surrendered seven runs through five innings as the Charlotte Knights (32-29, 74-62) cruised to a 9-3 win on Friday night at Gwinnett Field. Charlotte leads the series 3-1.

Decisive Plays: The Knights struck first in the third inning on a Ryan Galanie RBI single to make it 1-0. Up 3-0 entering the fifth, Charlotte blew the game wide open with a four-run frame capped by a three-run home run by Caden Connor (6) to make it 7-0. The Stripers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Maverick Handley crushed a solo homer (2) to left. In the sixth, Rowdy Tellez drove in the second Stripers run on an RBI single. A Joey Wiemer two-run shot (3) in the seventh got the pair of runs back for Charlotte for a 9-2 advantage. Gwinnett manufactured one more run in the bottom of the seventh courtesy of a Jim Jarvis RBI single to make it 9-3, the final.

Key Contributors: Handley (1-for-3, homer, RBI), Tellez (2-for-4, double, RBI), and Jarvis (1-for-4, RBI) drove in the three runs for Gwinnett. For Charlotte, starter David Sandlin (W, 4-0) struck out 11 over 5.2 innings (4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 SO). Connor (2-for-4, homer, 4 RBIs) and Wiemer (2-for-4, homer, 2 RBIs) combined on six RBIs for the Knights.

Noteworthy: Gwinnett starter Garrett Baumann has allowed just three earned runs over 10.0 innings since being recalled from Double-A Columbus. The Stripers struck out 15 times, marking just the sixth time this season they have amassed 15-plus strikeouts at the plate. Ian Hamilton worked a scoreless outing to extend his scoreless streak to six games (since 8/15).
