First minute goal spells doom for three-game run
ATLANTA, Ga. (Sept. 3, 2026) – Teams can’t win a game in the first minute, but they can lose one.
Georgia State scored 21 seconds into a weather-delayed match with the ETSU women’s soccer team and went on to a 2-1 win over the Buccaneers (3-2-0), snapping a three-game winning streak for ETSU.
The Panthers (3-2-1) got the lead thanks to Brielle Delgado seconds into proceedings and built a 2-0 lead when Delgado set up Sunniyah Tucker for a second goal. The Bucs answered shortly after with a goal from Jada Cooper in the 27th minute, her second in as many games, but could not find an equalizer in the second half.
The Bucs outshot the Panthers 13-11, but GSU owned a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. Abbey Hayberg led the Bucs with four shots, while Cooper and Sadie Commerford were the only Bucs to get a shot on frame. Addison Yelton made five saves.
The Bucs wrap their road swing having won two of three and return home next Thursday to tussle with App State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and admission to all matches at Summers-Taylor Stadium is free.
