The second of three road matches for Greenville began with a blistering 3:00 PM kickoff. When both teams stepped on the pitch, it was clear there would be a very even fight. Greenville found success in the width, able to attack Carolina’s left flank and defenders. Despite shifting the play forward, the Liberty were unable to complete a cross early. Midway through the half, FCC launched a trio of corner kicks which narrowly led to a goal but were defended well by the Liberty. Despite opportunities, neither team dominated in the offense and the first half concluded 0-0.

With 45’ left of regular time the Greenville Liberty returned to the field in the same fashion they left. The South Carolina team earned an early corner kick and arched the ball to the back post. The ball bobbled around the 18-yard box then landed at captain, Haley Schueppert’s feet and she smashed it into the back of the net. Greenville led the half with breakaway along the outside but FC Carolina’s tested Liberty goalkeeper, Georgia Kantsonouri following the water break. In the 73rd minute a strike from FCC dinged off the crossbar and was cleared out safely removing Greenville from harm. Greenville rounded out regular time with a 1-0 lead until Clemson University alumni, Julie Mackin streaked down the field to a one-on-one goal scoring opportunity. Mackin was fouled in the box before she was able to strike, and a penalty kick was awarded to Greenville. Midfielder, Christian Brathwaite stepped up for the kick and promptly tucked the ball away to make it 2-0 Liberty shutout before the whistle blew.
