The field is officially locked in for the 2026 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, and as a result, the road to the championship runs through the No. 1 seed, the Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball.

After finishing 16-2 in conference play, Duke captured its first outright ACC regular-season title since 2013. In doing so, the Blue Devils enter postseason play as one of the conference’s hottest teams. Not only have they won 18 of their last 20 games, but they also head into tournament week ranked No. 12 nationally, reinforcing their momentum at exactly the right time.

Tournament Details

Now attention shifts to Greater Atlanta, where the tournament will take place March 4–8 at Gas South Arena. Overall, 15 of the ACC’s 18 programs will compete in 14 games across five days, culminating in the championship matchup Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.

To begin the week, opening-round games tip off Wednesday, followed by second-round matchups Thursday. From there, the intensity rises with quarterfinal action on Friday, semifinal showdowns Saturday, and ultimately the title game closing out the tournament on Sunday afternoon.

The Top Contenders

Behind Duke, the Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball secured the No. 2 seed after finishing 15-3 in ACC play. More importantly, Louisville proved its dominance away from home, going undefeated in conference road games and establishing itself as one of the most dangerous teams in hostile environments.

Meanwhile, the North Carolina Tar Heels women’s basketball claimed the No. 3 seed with a 14-4 league record. Entering tournament play, the Tar Heels carry a four-game winning streak — highlighted by a statement victory over Duke in the regular-season finale — which could prove pivotal as bracket play unfolds.

For the third consecutive season, the NC State Wolfpack women’s basketball earned a double bye after finishing 13-5 in conference competition. As a result, NC State once again positions itself strategically in the bracket with additional rest heading into the quarterfinals.

Middle Seeds Set Up Key Matchups

Elsewhere in the standings, a three-way tie at 12-6 between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball, Virginia Tech Hokies women’s basketball, and Syracuse Orange women’s basketball added late drama to the seeding picture.

Ultimately, Notre Dame earned the No. 5 seed after sweeping both Virginia Tech and Syracuse during the regular season. Additionally, the Fighting Irish are coming off a marquee road win over a top-10 Louisville squad, giving them added confidence entering tournament week.

Virginia Tech, by comparison, secured the No. 6 seed after defeating Syracuse head-to-head, leaving the Orange in the No. 7 position.

Looking ahead to Thursday’s second-round slate, No. 8 seed Virginia Cavaliers women’s basketball will meet No. 9 seed Clemson Tigers women’s basketball. Notably, both teams finished 11-7 in ACC play, and Virginia won the previous matchup earlier this season — a detail that could factor into expectations.

Opening Round Outlook

As Wednesday’s action begins, No. 10 seed California Golden Bears women’s basketball will square off against No. 15 seed Wake Forest Demon Deacons women’s basketball.

At the same time, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball won the tiebreaker among three teams that finished 8-10 in conference play and will take on No. 14 seed Florida State Seminoles women’s basketball. Meanwhile, the Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball and Stanford Cardinal women’s basketball will tip off the tournament in the opening game Wednesday morning.

Where to Watch

From a broadcast standpoint, first- and second-round games will air on ACC Network. Quarterfinal coverage will be shared with ESPN2, while the semifinals will air on ESPN2 as well. Finally, Sunday’s championship game will broadcast nationally on ESPN at 1 p.m. ET.

Now in its 49th year, the Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament marks a historic shift in 2026. For the first time, the event will be held at a neutral site outside the Carolinas — adding another layer of intrigue to what already promises to be a competitive and compelling postseason.
