GREENVILLE, S.C. – Sofia D’Angelo and Caroline Glus combined for nine points to lead the Mercer Bears to a 13-6 Big South Conference victory over the Furman women’s lacrosse team, Wednesday evening at Paladin Stadium.

Furman drops to 7-7 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. The win propels Mercer to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in the Big South. Lily Toole, who scored her 100th career goal on Wednesday, and Shae Insinga both recorded three points to lead the Paladins. Insinga scored a team high three goals while Toole provided two assists and one goal. Emily Muir tied her career best of two goals. Defensively, Lilly Dyer totaled three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Charlotte Kent won three draws. Goalies Sam Melville and Madigan Brewer combined for 13 saves.

D’Angelo came off the bench to lead all players with five points for the Bears on four goals and an assist. Glus tied Ansley Walters with three goals apiece and dished out an assist. In goal, Mackenzie Ward posted five saves, two ground balls, and one caused turnover.

Mercer used a 5-0 run in the second quarter to break a 2-2 tie and lead 7-2 at halftime. The Paladins opened the game with back-to-back goals from Insinga and Muir to hold a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the first quarter. Furman would then be held scoreless until the 13:16 mark of the third quarter as the Bears scored seven straight goals.

Muir started the second half with her second goal of the evening when Mercer answered by registering a 4-0 run to hold an 11-3 advantage with 4:42 to go in the third quarter. Toole and Insinga combined for three consecutive goals for the Paladins and cut their deficit down to 11-6 at the 12:46 mark of the fourth quarter. The Bears closed out the contest with two goals over the final 7:17.
