FARMVILLE, VA. – The Furman women’s lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the contest Saturday afternoon and rallied back for a 13-11 victory over the Longwood Lancers in Big South Conference action at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

Furman improves to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the Big South. The loss drops Longwood to 2-8 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

Lily Toole registered a game high six points for the Paladins on three goals and three assists. Avery Adeli and Reynolds Hester both came off the bench to compile five points. Adeli totaled career highs of five points and three goals while dishing out two assists. Hester contributed three assists and two goals. Defensively, Charlotte Kent turned in career highs of four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Zoe Milmoe matched Kent with three caused turnovers. Goalie Sam Melville earned the win with seven saves.

Jordan Fitzgerald and Madison Rogers each led the Lancer offense with four points. Rogers led all players with a game high four goals and Fitzgerald added three goals and one assist. In goal, Isabella McCullough turned in nine saves and two ground balls.

Longwood held an 11-9 lead heading into the fourth quarter after outscoring Furman 3-1 in the third. The Paladin defense stepped up holding the Lancers scoreless over the final 18:49 of the contest and kept them off the scoreboard the entire fourth period. Furman forced Longwood into six turnovers over the final 15 minutes while scoring four times, including twice in the last 2:49.

Hester and Emily Muir teamed up with back-to-back goals over a stretch of 1:03 to begin the fourth quarter and tied the game up at 11-11. After a nearly seven-minute scoring drought, Shae Insinga, who scored her 100th career goal on Saturday, put the Paladins up for good with her game-winner at the 2:49 mark. Allie Kandel sealed the 13-11 win with 1:26 remaining.

Furman trailed 4-2 with 3:57 left in the first quarter before reeling off five consecutive goals to build a 7-4 lead at the 7:35 mark of the second off Kandel’s first goal of the game. Four different Paladins scored during the run with Toole netting two goals. The Lancers answered with a 3-0 run to even the score at 7-7. The teams finished up the first half trading goals and went into halftime tied at 8-8.

Furman, who improves to 5-0 all-time over Longwood, held a 31-28 advantage in shots, 19-18 in ground balls, 14-12 in draws, and finished with 12 caused turnovers. The Paladins’ defense also forced the Lancers into 18 turnovers.
