Junior Walker Allen clinched a Paladin victory on Tuesday afternoon as the Furman men’s tennis team registered a 5-2 Southern Conference win over the Mercer Bears from Copelan Tennis Complex.

The Paladins remain undefeated in the SoCon, improving to 5-10 overall and 2-0 in conference play. With the loss, Mercer falls to 4-10 on the season and 0-2 in the league.

Furman swept all three doubles matches to claim the point and take a 1-0 lead over the Bears. Evan Duggal and Landon Ecarma got things started at No. 2 with a 6-2 triumph over Prince Gandonou and Shingo Masuda. In the No. 1 match, Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder clinched the point with their 6-3 win against Isak Padio and Nemanja Stefanovic. Alex Han and Finn Pollard closed out doubles at No. 3 with a 6-2 victory versus Alex Aldaz and Esteban Gasser.

The Paladins would go on to win four singles matches at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 to secure the 5-2 win. The Bears opened singles with a win at No. 2 when Duggal put Furman back ahead with his 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 over Aldaz.

After Mercer earned a straight-set win at No. 3, the Paladins wrapped up the match with three consecutive wins at No. 6, No. 5, and No. 1. Playing at No. 6, Ecarma picked up a 6-1, 7-6(4) win against Howell Burns and Allen would capture the match for Furman with his 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 over Gandonou. Snyder closed out the contest at No. 1 with a three-set win versus Padio, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
