Deacs Blow Another Lead
The Deacs lost yet another close game on the road at Pitt today in OT by a score of 80-76. Despite missing arguably the best player on the team in Nate Calmese, the Demon Deacons nearly pulled this one off. Despite a 12 point lead at one point, the Panthers kept it to just a 6-point Deac lead at the break. Pitt’s largest lead of the night was only 5 points. Wake Forest held the lead for over 83% of the game. Wake Forest has held a lead for the majority of the game only 3 times in ACC play this season. The Demon Deacons are just 1-2 in those contests.
As A Team
We are now 8 games into the Deacs 18-game ACC schedule. Wake Forest currently holds a 2-6 record so far in ACC play, with 3 more games remaining against top 25 teams. In those 8 games, the Demon Deacons have been outrebounded in all but one game, against Virginia Tech, 34-33. In 3 of those games, Wake Forest was outshot by their opponent both from the field and from three. Even with the injuries, the lack of consistency from this team continues to be frustrating. With the sheer level of talent on the roster, this team should have a better record.
The Big Three
Nate Calmese being hampered absolutely was a factor tonight for the Demon Deacons. Calmese only played 10 minutes, but still managed 10 points on 4-5 shooting and 2-3 from three. Cooper Schweiger had the most minutes tonight, with 43 minutes of action due to the extra frame. This means he sat for only about 2 minutes of gametime. Myles Colvin had the 2nd most minutes played at 42. Schweiger was only 3 points shy of a double-double thanks to a huge night on the boards. Schweiger had 7 points, 11 rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block. Colvin led with 18 points on 4-14 shooting, including 1-7 from three. The Deacs only made a combined 7 three pointers tonight.
