While much of the local basketball spotlight has been centered on marquee tournaments and familiar contenders, Chattanooga Arts & Sciences School (CSAS) has been quietly putting together an impressive stretch of basketball.
CSAS went 5–1 over the holiday break, highlighted by a championship run at the Marlin Christmas Classic in Panama City Beach. The strong showing extended the program’s momentum to 9 wins in its last 10 games, improving the team’s overall record to 11–3 on the season.
Winning Away From Home
The Marlin Christmas Classic in Panama City, FL provided an opportunity for CSAS to test itself outside the Chattanooga area, and the team responded with disciplined play and consistency throughout the tournament. Winning on the road especially in a multi-day tournament setting is often a strong indicator of growth, and CSAS passed that test during the holiday stretch by Winning the Marlin Christmas Classic in Florida preparing them for the tough district that features Tyner and Chattanooga Prep.
According to Coach Henderson, the team’s focus has remained internal throughout the season.
“The only thing that matters to us as a program is that our team believes in each other, stays together, and battles as one through the ups and downs,” coach Henderson said. “We don’t worry about the outside noise.”
Focused on the Next Challenge
That mindset will be tested immediately, as CSAS prepares for a major district matchup tonight at home against back-to-back state champions Chattanooga Prep which is also battle tested with the schedule they play.
Despite the challenge ahead, coach Henderson emphasized that the approach remains the same compete, stay together, and give maximum effort for all 32 minutes.
“Our guys are very aware of the challenge in front of us,” coach Henderson said. “But we’re going to show up, compete, and leave it all on the floor. What matters most is that our team believes in each other and battles as one.”
Quiet Progress, Real Results
While CSAS may not currently sit among the area’s most talked-about programs, the results reflect steady development and growing confidence.
“This group has grown a lot,” coach Henderson added. “We’re focused on development, effort, and learning how to win close games. The confidence has steadily built as the season has gone on.”
That growth has been rooted in continuity and culture a “We all we got” approach something coach Henderson believes sets the program apart.
“In today’s high school basketball landscape, you don’t always know who’s playing where year to year,” he said. “At CSAS, all we really have is each other, and we take pride in building a brotherhood that’s committed to working together and having each other’s backs.”
As district play start and continues, CSAS remains a program worth monitoring. The wins may come quietly, but the foundation being built is real and often, that’s how strong seasons are formed.
Sometimes the best stories aren’t the loudest ones — they’re the ones written one possession at a time.
