Coach’s Comments
“First, I’d like to thank the crowd that came out today. I thought it was a really nice crowd for a noon game on Black Friday. Really encouraged by that and we appreciate that. I thought Northeastern ran their offense with great tempo, especially in the first half. We just couldn’t disrupt that. I thought we were constantly behind the play defensively. They did a very good job of taking on the trap. A lot of guards don’t want to come off the ball. That’s why it’s successful or effective. They came off the ball, they crossed, courted it and then they either threw the rocket pass to the roller or they skipped it. Our low man was doing a poor job of getting out on the skip, either for three or didn’t get driven. I was not very pleased with our defensive effort in the first half. I thought a lot of that credit should go to Coach Coen and his team by the way they ran their offense with tempo and physicality.

“I thought in the second half, we got going a little bit defensively and turned them over 13 times in the second half. I thought we did a much better job. Their guard, Miles Newton, had 19 in the first half and only had three points in the second half. We only gave up six offensive rebounds for the whole game. I think from about the 16-minute mark to the nine-minute mark, we stopped them 12 out of 14 times. We had six kills in the second half. We just played a lot better. I didn’t like the way we ended the game. We gave up a couple threes defensively, took a quick shot and turned it over. That’s something that’s just got to get fixed. I thought their guards did a really good job of handling the Blitz for the most part, so credit to them for coming off the ball. I thought in the second half our blitzes were a lot more effective, the court stayed a lot more compact, and we had more chances to turn defense into offense, which kind of got us going.” – head coach Steve Forbes
