Deacons beat UNC 28-12
Robbie Ashford once again led the way as the Demon Deacons stymied the recently resurgent Tar Heels 28-12. Ashford went 15/25 passing for 191 yards and a TD. Ashford added 10 carries for 52 yards and a TD. Demond Claibirne led the ground attack with 23 carries for 98 yards and a TD, along with 2 catches for 12 yards.
Special teams truly shined tonight for the Deacs, with 2 blocked field goals preventing what would’ve been a 21-18 ballgame late. The offense also made a huge “special teams” play. Carlos Hernandez returning an Ashford fumble for a 38 yard TD. Hernandez had 6 catches for 100 yards and a TD.
On defense, the Demon Deacons held UNC to only 257 yards of total offense on the night. Only 56 of those yards came on the ground for the Tar Heels. The key factor in this one turned out to be 4th downs, as the Deacs managed to go 2 for 3 on the night in some big moments.
19 different defenders record tackles today for Wake Forest. Aiden Hall led the way with 9 total tackles. Langston Hardy and Nuer Gatkouth each recorded a sack, and 5 different players recorded a TFL. Despite the strong performance, the defense did not record a turnover. In a great team performance, the Demon Deacons had Tar Heel fans up in arms online. Meanwhile, Wake Forest fans couldn’t help but celebrate. FQACC analyst Nick Dioli gave his thoughts in the video below.
