
The Furman volleyball team concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule this week facing the Charlotte 49ers, Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, and Ohio Bobcats. Furman hosts Charlotte Thursday evening at 6 p.m. inside Alley Gymnasium before traveling to Charlotte, N.C., Friday and Saturday to take on Maryland Eastern Shore and Ohio in the Charlotte Invitational from Charlotte’s Halton Arena. The Paladins play Maryland Eastern Shore Friday at 3 p.m. and Ohio Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Paladins (7-2) are currently riding a five-match winning streak entering their final non-conference matches after going undefeated last week hosting the Furman Invite at Alley Gymnasium. Furman earned wins over Alabama State, North Florida, and Winthrop. Tennyson Gorman was named MVP of the Furman Invite and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team along with Emily Navarro and Ashley Stein.

Stein registered a team high 11 kills on .333 hitting in the Paladins’ 3-0 sweep of Alabama State. Gorman and Amber Watson both compiled seven kills and hit .538 and .357, respectively. Navarro contributed 21 assists and seven digs, and Quinn Morrissey provided 17 assists. Kennedy Seekford led all players with a match high 13 digs. Furman hit .324 for the match and held a 41-33 advantage in kills and assists.

The Paladins rallied back the next day with a 3-2 victory over North Florida as four players had 10 or more kills led by Stein’s match high 12. Stein also added seven digs, five blocks, and two service aces. Gorman and Izzy Castelloe compiled 11 kills, and Lindsay Walch provided 10. Navarro turned in her team leading fourth double-double this year on 27 assists and 10 digs. Seekford paced Furman with 13 digs. The Paladins concluded the match hitting .203 and held a 54-50 advantage in kills and 53-47 in assists. Furman tied its season high of 12 blocks.
Gorman matched her career high of 16 kills in the 3-1 triumph over Winthrop and hit .652 to pace the offensive attack and totaled four assisted blocks. Stein registered her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 14 digs. Castelloe contributed nine kills on .364 hitting. Navarro, Morrissey, and Eva Wheeler combined for 48 assists. Seekford added 12 digs. The Paladins had a season high .343 hitting performance in the victory while holding a 60-57 advantage in kills and 58-56 in digs.
She hit .509 during the Furman Invite while recording 34 kills and 16 total blocks.

Charlotte enters the week with a 6-3 overall record while Ohio is 2-7 and Maryland Eastern Shore 2-8. The 49ers lead the all-time series over Furman, 17-12, and Ohio holds a 3-0 advantage. The Paladins are facing the Hawks for the first time in program history.
Furman opens Southern Conference play next week, September 25-27, against UNC Greensboro and Samford. The Paladins travel to UNC Greensboro on September 25 before hosting Samford on September 27.
