Redshirt freshman Ivan Horvat notched his second shutout of the season to pace ninth-ranked Furman to a 0-0 draw at No. 5 Virginia Tech in men’s soccer action Tuesday evening at Thompson Field. Horvat, a native of Bratislava, Slovakia, stopped eight shots over 90 minutes to earn the clean sheet and improve his record to 2-0-2 in four starts during the 2025 campaign. “It was good to get a shutout on the road against the No. 5 team in the country,” said Paladin head coach Doug Allison. “I’m proud of how hard our guys fought tonight. To get that result with the guys we had missing for various reasons, was impressive. It shows our depth is good and different guys are stepping up every game.”

Virginia Tech produced the majority of the chances on the night by outshooting Furman 16-2 and holding an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Paladin defense, however, held firm despite missing the services of several regular starters. Sam Joseph recorded one save to earn the shutout for the Hokies.
